About this listen
Pope Pius XII: man of peace, prophet, and protector of victims of war.
When we talk of saints who have been maligned, misunderstood, and mistreated, no one deserves more a place in this book than venerable Pope Pius XII. We have learned late in life that the history passed down depends on the authors, not necessarily on the facts. We can remember in our lifetime, the escalator of our emotions and intellect, as a country ascended from enemy to friend and then descended, back again, from friend to enemy.
As soon as our heads cleared, we realized that history lay in the hands of those who wrote about it. We have had a passion to write about Pope Pius XII for years. The attacks on His Holiness have appeared to us as just another attack on Mother Church. And how better to do it, than after he is dead - when he cannot defend himself.
But surprise, surprise, his good deeds live long after him, coming down to us from those he helped during that horrible World War II, which shook the earth. We are not the only ones who want to set the record straight, thank God, but we have had this gnawing desire to tell his story.
We love him, and we have always loved him. He should be honored, not maligned. And there have been those who have defended him; but as is so often the case, those who would besmirch his name get more of the press. And as scandal and slander sell more books, conscience aside, no matter the truth, it is written and it sells! They claim to write objectively. That can be no closer to the truth than their allegations.
I admit we are subjective; but it is backed up by fact! So, here goes. Please stay with us, as we tell you about one of our greatest popes - one born into one of the worst times to be seated in the Chair of Peter.
