About this listen

Master Hugh won the Black Prince’s favor when he helped to ease the Prince’s illness. Now, in the autumn of 1372, the prince is suffering a relapse and sends to Bampton for Master Hugh to attend him.

While at dinner in Kennington Palace, Sir Giles, the knight who escorted Hugh to London, is stricken and dies. Poison! Sir Giles is not popular, and there are many who would gladly see the fellow done away with, except for Prince Edward.

The Black Prince feels a debt to the slain man because of his heroic behavior at the Battle of Crécy, where the knight stood firm with the prince when the fight seemed of uncertain outcome. Despite caring little for Sir Giles, Master Hugh must once again place himself in jeopardy and seek to uncover the perpetrator of the crime.

Local History Love it!!

It is always titillating to hear your local areas mentioned in stories. I knew my neighbourhoods
we're villages of old as there are some buildings dating back to 1600's, but I didn't realise that some areas which I consider my playground can be dated back as far as the 1300's. It really added a double layer of goodness, to and already really well told and intriguing mystery tale.

repetive phases are a tad tiresome

I do like these books and the story line but the same repetitive phases used in every book are becoming v tiresome find I zone out then have to rewind to recapture some of the story

Medieval Mystery at its best

A real slice of how brutal life was in the England of the Black Prince. Much of it was played out in the my local area. The Black Princes castle still stands at Berkhamstead (well much of it does), Princes Risborough is a pretty market town. Stokenchurch is easy to find as a Communications Tower looms over the area.

A mediaeval mystery

Greed and callous disregard for human life is well told in this tale. Well narrated.

Loved the references to history and historical landmarks of the area. I had to listen until the end as I enjoyed the story and delivery so much. Thank you.
