Summary

Explore life through the lens of the world's most fascinating philosophical thinkers with this accessible book.

If you sometimes ask yourself "Why am I here?" or "Is there always a clear right and wrong?", you're drawn to the big questions of life, which is what philosophy is all about! Its goal is to explore life's mysteries, to see if universal truths are discoverable through logical reasoning.

The nature of these philosophical issues, which span a variety of subjects including life after death, existence, religion, ethics, morality, happiness, and more, have eluded philosophers for millennia.

Below are just some of the areas this book delves deeply into:

  • Thought-provoking questions about morality, free will, and happiness
  • Defining and determining the purpose of life, death, and self
  • The paradox of connecting mind and body
  • Proving the existence of a higher power (?)

Questions make life more interesting and colorful. Without them, we'd be stuck in a perpetual void of idleness.

These philosophical questions can enlighten your mind, ignite your drive for life, and induce critical and deep thinking...or they can also be fun conversation starters over coffee.... You choose!

Thorough and Though-Provoking

This audiobook brings thought-provoking questions into a greater light. Despite these philosophers living centuries ago, it's clear that their work is still very evident today. It covers all bases from morality to religon. Will definitely be listening to this again to have more food for thought.

Informative

This audiobook opens your mind and makes you think deeply. I learnt so much. I never thought of ethic this way that ethics might not seem like they are a part of philosophy, but they are actually some of the most important aspects. Likely, this is an aspect of philosophy that you have already partaken in. Most people have had some kind of ethical debate, ranging from who should have to do which chores to political opinions to thoughts on altruism. But ethics is more than just asking “What is the right thing to do?” Philosophical ethics dives much deeper. It questions whether there even is a right or a wrong thing to do, how we define right and wrong, and whether right and wrong can be different across time and place. Ethicists might also question who has the right to decide or enforce what is right or wrong, touching on debates around authoritarianism and law enforcement. I pulled this whole paragraph out because it strikes me so deeply, that I shared it with my husband and we began discussing, that we grow up not having a single thought of questioning some believes and principle we were raised by. Then asked ourselves why and why. I strongly recommend this book! Great narration.

Beautiful and Inspirational

If you often wonder about life’s persisting questions and keep asking yourself “Why am I here?”, then you need to listen to this audiobook! The author does a great job shedding light on the most important philosophical issues that have been around since the dawn of mankind. In this audiobook the listener can explore the various philosophical topics such as meaning of life, happiness, morality, free will, life and death, science versus philosophy. My favorite topic was the “Moral Luck” within the chapter of Ethics and Morality. The narration sounds nicely and flows well with the author’s message. Highly recommended audiobook!

Great Book.

The fact that this book addressed areas of life that I am concerned with and issues that have been lingering in the back of my mind that I have been hesitant to approach anybody about made it a very enjoyable read for me. It is for those of us who have a ravenous appetite for information and the truth, for those types of people who have a tendency towards asking profound questions about life and who aren't satisfied with solutions that are only on the surface. What are we doing this for? What is the reason for my existence? In what ways are humans distinct from other living creatures? So what would we say about religion? Where does it fit in the scheme of things? You will be able to explore your own ideas and views more thoroughly after reading this book since it teaches you new ways of thinking that you may employ. It allows you to put your life into perspective and think about how philosophy may be applied to real-world situations.

Intense and simple

This book is for those of us who are thirsty for knowledge and truth - those personalities who lean towards asking the deep questions about life, who aren't just content with surface level answers. Why are we here? What's the meaning of life? How are we different from animals? What about religion, what is it's place in life? This book helps you learn different frameworks of thinking, and use that to investigate your own thoughts and believes. It provides a way to put your life in context and ponder the application of philosophy to life. It's like reading Marcus Aurelius, but in really accessible language. I really loved this book.
