About this listen
In the winter of 1976, Simon Cardoso is arrested by the military and is never seen again. Thirty years later, Emilia Dupuy, his wife, is stunned to find him in New Jersey. Her world, which had crumbled after losing him, is alight with life again. There is a caveat, however: for Simn Cardoso time stopped when he disappeared. Using this enigma as the foundation, Tomas Eloy Martinez' story of the anguish of a lost and recovered love is masterfully tied to the sinister sense of unreality created by a regime.

Perhaps not my style
I am aware that some books become arduous soley because the genre does not fit the reader. This is one such I think. Martinez likes to discribe feelings or moments several different ways to the point of boredom-but as I said:perhaps it was a book just not for me.

Subversive on LSD
The description of this book makes it sound like a sci fi thriller. This is not the case!
30 years after his dissaperance, Emilia, our hero, meets her husband in a cafe. 30 years has gone but the husband still looks 30 years old. This sounds like the beginning of a sci fi thriller but it's not. Actually i think that that what the book was supposed to be but the story devellops in a totally different direction. This story is a historical drama with a political agenda. Actually this is the history of Argentina in the 70. and early 80. after Peron. A little unexpected but the book is well written and 9 hours went by in a flash. If the thing with the husband showing up after 30 years had been left out this could have been a great book..
