About this listen
In Seymour Wishman’s riveting novel about law, murder, and twisted justice, a woman accused of an unthinkable crime must put her fate in the hands of an enemy.
When it comes to establishing reasonable doubt in the minds of a New York jury, defense attorney Michael Roehmer is the best in the business - and no one knows this better than rape victim Lisa Altman. She sat helplessly in the courtroom as Roehmer, smoothly and without mercy, shot gaping holes in her testimony. As a result, the man who brutally assaulted her walked free. Right and wrong, guilt and innocence, mean nothing to Roehmer. For him, winning is everything.
Now Altman is sitting at a different table: Her rapist has been savagely murdered and she’s accused of the heinous crime. Condemned by the evidence and with nowhere else to turn, the young actress needs the best legal help she can find. She needs Roehmer, because suddenly her freedom - and her very life - hang precariously in the balance.

Rather tiresome
With a thoroughly unlikeable protagonist, I found that I did not care about the story and its characters. The ludicrous events culminate in an entirely predictable ending. Not recommended.

Fairly predictable...
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend it to friends who are fans of courtroom drama.
What did you like best about this story?
A good amount of suspense and the narration, which was gritty and realistic.
Have you listened to any of Noah Michael Levine’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No, never.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It didn't make me laugh or cry, but it did keep me in suspense for the first two thirds.
Any additional comments?
It's very well paced and a good book.

Couldn't get through it
I don't usually give up but I got to the end of chapter 3 and realised I'd stopped listening half way through chapter 2. The narrator's style didn't engage me.

Awful
Got halfway through first chapter and abandoned it. The narrator sounds as dimwitted as the content.

Don’t waste your time.
Awful.
Terrible narration.
Impossible story. Totally unbelievable, throw together, disjointed and un-researched.
I’ve only given it one star because l cannot give any less, I have to give one star to enable a review to warn others!
I’m really surprised Audible even consider offering it on the ‘plus catalogue’.
