How do you solve a murder, when all you have are questions?
When a prominent MSP goes missing, DSI William Lorimer wastes no time in investigating. Robert Truesdale was fronting the controversial campaign to legalise drugs in Scotland, and his enemies were numerous. With every passing day, the chances of finding him alive grow slimmer.
Then the worst happens. A car bomb explodes in a nearby village, and the blackened body pulled from the wreckage appears to be Truesdale's. Yet there are details that don't add up and soon Lorimer is questioning whether the victim was all he claimed to be.
Lorimer calls on the assistance of his friend, PC Daniel Kohi, who has infiltrated a local gang as part of a police initiative to crack down on drug-related crime in Glasgow. As their investigation draws them into the dark heart of Glasgow's criminal underworld, Lorimer and Kohi discover that danger is everywhere and nobody is as they seem.

drawling
to slow and reader felt like he was fal.ing asleep at times which made it seem rvrn more drawn out and slow sickly sweet sorry as we have enjoyed previous books by alex gray butter last two very similar.

The intrigue story and characters, most enjoyable
I enjoyed the inclusion of city streets and police stations, although I am a wee bit biased as I come from Glasgow.

Very average, time to call it a day.
Thin story line. Not very believable plot involving a disappearing, seemingly highly credulous MSP and a later day Iago. It’s a piece of luck all round that the villains are so easy to bring to book. Not worth listening to.

Love this series
Another great Lorimer episode. How refreshing it is to have a main protagonist who is not an alcoholic/sad divorcee/product of dysfunctional family etc etc. and yet he is still interesting! Alex Gray skillfully weaves plots and sub plots making readers care about the characters …. And my heart was in my mouth a couple of times - but no spoilers - just enjoy the ride. More please - there’s more miles in this series!

Narration not up to standard
I had been looking forward to listening to this book as I have listened to the whole series so far BUT, oh what a disappointment! The storyline was ok ish (not the best in the series by far) but the narration by Joe Dunlop, who is normally quite a good narrator, was well below par. At times he sounded as if he was struggling to form the words and his incredibly slow, laboured speech made a good story somewhat tedious.
My advice is read it rather than listen to it.

Love these books
Not sure what what the negative comments are about! Might not have been the best Lorrimer book but it was still entertaining. Joe Dunlop does a marvellous job.

Slow narration spoiled listening.
The storyline was interesting and the two different threads were woven well together. There was a lot of repetition of information at times which seemed to be done to fill time - I couldn’t say for sure. However, the narration was, unfortunately, ponderous and mostly monotone.
Characters were generally not given different voices, something which enhanced the listening and didn’t distract from the pleasure. It would have been even better if there had been some modulation in tone, some excitement, some fear etc expressed in the reading.

Disappointing
The naration of this book was of such a poor standard. The storyline was slow and ponderous. Hopefully this is a one off slippage of the standards from the author as previous books have been very good.
