About this listen

His Holiness, the Dalai Lama: In Raging Fire of Love, Dr. Kelly James Clark delves into the teachings of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and concludes that kindness and compassion lie at the heart of them all.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu (1931-2021): I am grateful for Clarks informative and inspirational call to the children of Abraham, to all of Gods children really, to resist our divisive fears and to bravely and hopefully persist in love.

As I was writing this book on Muslim, Christian and Jewish love, I learned that I am writing about how I learned about love of neighbor and even enemy. When I'm writing about compassion in the Abrahamic traditions, I am writing about what I have learned, first and foremost, from Christians (my spiritual home), second, Jews, and third, Muslims. This is a story about me and my friends—Kirk, Jim, Nancy, Mary Ann and Ted; Aaron, Silvia, Samuel, Shira and Shlomit; and Abdullah, Ghazala, Asif, Zahabia and Mohammed. It is also a story about me, a philosopher with a deep interest in religion and peace, and my encounters with the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, and the Quran.

Profound and moving

This book was both profound and moving. Clark's genuine and respectful approach to exploring the teachings of love in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam is commendable. As a Mulsim, I was particularly moved by his thoughtful reflections on the Quran and Islamic teachings on compassion and love. The personal stories of his interactions with people from all three faiths are touching and inspiring. This book is a powerful reminder of our shared humanity and the profound love that unites us. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in interfaith understanding and dialogue.

a journey of love across all faiths

This is an amazing audiobook that shows how love and compassion are central to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Even though I'm not an academic or very religious (I consider myself to be more spiritual though), I found this book incredibly touching and easy to understand. Dr. Clark shares his personal journey through these faiths with beautiful stories and clear explanations. He talks about his friends from each tradition—Christians, Jews, and Muslims—highlighting how kindness and empathy are important in all of them. This makes the book feel very real and relatable. I especially liked how Dr. Clark respectfully explores Islamic teachings on compassion. His thoughts on the Quran were thoughtful and sincere, offering a new perspective for readers like me who are less familiar with Islam. While the book sometimes gets a bit scholarly, its main message is uplifting and inspiring. It’s a great listen for anyone interested in understanding different faiths better. It has broadened my perspective and inspired me to see love as a universal language that can bring people together. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more about love and compassion in different religions.

A Unifying Journey Through Faith

"Raging Fire of Love" is a thoughtful exploration of the core teachings of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, presented through the personal experiences of Dr. Kelly James Clark. The audiobook seamlessly blends scholarly insights with heartfelt stories, making the complex themes of these religions accessible and relatable. Dr. Clark’s narrative is enriched by his personal interactions with friends from these faith communities, adding a deeply human touch to his discussions on love and compassion.

The endorsements by figures like the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu set the stage for a profound and uplifting message, and the audiobook delivers just that. It's a reminder that at the heart of these diverse religions, there's a common thread of kindness and the potential for peace through understanding.

While the audiobook can occasionally get a bit academic, its overall message is inspirational. It's a great listen for anyone interested in the intersections of faith and love, or for those seeking to deepen their understanding of these major world religions through a personal lens.
