About this listen
Editor reviews
Writers Jo nathan Lethem (Gun, With Occasional Music, andFortress of Solitude), Judith Freeman (The Long Embrace: Raymond Chandler and The Woman He Loved), and Rich Cohen (Sweet and Low: A Family Story) join each other for a conversation about Raymond Chandler at the Thalia Book Club. The three contemporaries compare notes on their first encounters with Chandler's work and his effect on their own writing. Listeners will want to be part of their humorous, engrossing discussion on how Chandler redefined the mystery genre with his cynical private detective Philip Marlowe and on his continuing influence on many contemporary writers.

More than The Big Sleep
As a lover of the work of Raymond Chandler I enjoyed this audio discussion enormously. The three authors have an immense passion for their subject, it is much more than a review of The Big Sleep, it is about Chandler's literary style, life and background, the character of Philip Marlowe and especially the way the city of L.A. is portrayed in Chandler's books. It is a recording of a live discussion and very animated, not a dull moment. My only criticism: it could have gone on for another hour (or two) but with 80 minutes it is already quite generous (especially for this price). Strongly recommended for Chandler lovers, you will love this.

This is NOT the storie
This is just a panel talking about the book not a reading of the story…

Feel misled
No indication that this was not the actual book but a review of it by a panel of ‘experts’ c and xx an audience. Disappointed and feel misled.
