About this listen
"What we have can’t be faked."
Max Jackson’s life is pretty close to perfect - except that he’s secretly in love with his straight best friend and roommate. He’s got his dream job and a family he secretly pretends are his own. But they aren’t...no matter how much he might wish it were true.
After the tragic death of his wife, Parker Wilson didn’t have time to wallow in grief - not when he had two young children to raise. He’s not looking for romance or a new partner. He doesn’t need one anyway...he has his life-long buddy Max to help him through every struggle.
When Parker loses his job and can’t afford his daughter’s pricey insulin, Max suggests fake marriage for insurance coverage. Since he’s already a second parent to Parker’s cute kids, it should be easy...until the marriage becomes a little too real.
Welcome to Hidden Creek, Texas, where the heart knows what it wants, and where true love lives happily ever after. Every Men of Hidden Creek novel can be enjoyed on its own, but keep an eye out for familiar faces around town! This audiobook contains dad jokes, a pair of kids that will steal your heart, and more heat than a Texas summer.

The feeling when friendship develops into love!
A touching story :)
Parker tragically loses his wife and is left raising their 2 children. He has lost his home and has to move in with his close friend, Max. Max has been in love with Parker for a while, so he is only too happy to have them live with him; his only wish is that they become a real family. Fast forward a few years - Parker loses his job and needs to be able to provide medical care for his daughter, so he and Max marry. Their bond grows from friendship to dawning attraction (on Parker's side), to mutual affection and more.
The narration is expertly handled by Nick Russo - he portrays both the adult and kid voices very well. He brings the characters to life with infusing them with the pain of losing a wife, mum, the joys of being a family with your best friend and the passion of falling in love with said BF.
A really lovely story and great listen :)

Best friends to husbands
I discovered Hidden Creek late last year and I'm still working my way through the first 2 series as I loved the third series which mainly had a holiday season feel to them. I was delighted when Susan Hawke, one of my favourite authors announced that her book was part of series 4. Also, Nick J. Russo is one of my favourite narrators and he does an excellent job of bringing the guys to life. This was a heartwarming tale of a family coming together and forging new stronger relationships after a terrible tragedy. Highly recommended for all lovers of MM romance and of the Hidden Creek series.

as great as the ebook
The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.
The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Nick J Russo is one of the top 5 narrators for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow.
I'm just not yet finish with the book, just over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.
PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings:
5* - very very good
it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A
3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

I’m loving this series!
So far, so great with this multi author series. I loved this story from Susan Hawke, it’s a troupe I love - friends to lovers with a healthy dose of GFY / OFY.
It’s a sad beginning but don’t let that put you off. It’s a lovely, sweet tale that’ll warm your heart.
I really like Nick j Russo as a narrator, it’s easy to differentiate his characters and there’s no one too whiney!

Feel good romance with adorable children!
What a fantastic romance this is! Fast becoming one of my favourite tropes, fake husband is used to great effect by Susan Hawke in this addition to the Men of Hidden Creek series.
Parker lost his wife and was left alone with two young children but his lifelong best friend, Max, came to their rescue, offering a home, friendship and support. Three years later they've got co-parenting down but still as just friends. At least until Parker is fired from his job and with his daughter in need of expensive diabetic medication, a plan is hatched.
These two men together are so much fun. You can really tell that they've been friends for such a long time and though Max has been in love with Parker nearly as long, it doesn't affect their friendship. I love how easily they move into marriage as a way to get the best for Cindy after she experiences a small health crisis. Whilst their friendship is rock solid, the heat that grows between them becomes intense but also stays romantic. Max is fully involved with the kids lives and all together, they make such a cute family. Parker's children are so adorable, coming out with the best lines and speaking so innocently yet completely on the mark as only a young child can.
This is such a feel good romance for me. Yes, there is heartbreak for the family in the beginning and occasional moments of grief through the story but the author has written a tale packed full of love, friendship, family and fun. Definitely a recommended read for me. Another hit in this great series.
Nick has done such a wonderful job narrating this story. I love how he brought the emotion of each scene for every character involved - happy/sad/anger/grief. His portrayal of the children has me cracking up with laughter, especially Timmy with his mispronunciation of a lot and their innocence shone through. I could really sense how close Max and Parker were even before romance became involved and it brought me closer to the family as they worked through all of the hurdles that they faced together.

Slow burn kinda love
Best friends for a lifetime. Max and Parker have been there for each other through thick and thin. Max is always the savior, the protector. When Parker loses his wife and home in one instant, Max is there for him. Close proximity, best friends to lovers and all kinds of sweetness in between. Loved it. Couldn’t wait to get to the happy ending which was more than I ever expected. This book made me sigh and laugh and have a few cries, my favorite kind of rollercoaster.

A brilliant demisexual tale!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 4.25 stars
🔥🔥🔥🔥 Heat Level: 3.5

A brilliant demisexual tale with healing, hope, and deep friendship.
The first chapter of this story is devastating and I'll admit it had me in tears and hugging my loved ones close. As the story progresses we see the process of grief and moving forward for Parker and his children. Max is a pillar of strength and always there for them, however, he can be and 3 years later they have formed a little defacto family of sorts. Max loves Parker with all his heart and always has. He wants Parker in his life and loves the kids as his own. For Parker, the hits just keep on coming and for the love of his daughter, he enters into a fake marriage with Max. With the fake wedding being able to solve some of his problems, he thinks; why not?
When a fake marriage turns into a (rather large) backyard family wedding, feelings change and emotions are tested. I really enjoyed this approach to a fake marriage and its organic progression into more. I enjoyed the demisexuality being discovered and thank Susan for not including any stupidity or second-guessing. Once they realized they were more they stuck to it and I loved that! Max and Parker are so good together and I loved the family dynamics. I'd have to say the book may have started with sad tears but it definitely ended with happy ones. An ending with all the feels that you just can't help but smile! This story is a really great addition to Hidden Creek Season 4!!

Super Sweet Family
Best friends to lovers, sexual discovery, utter devotion and two adorable kids, sign me up!!
This was an adorable story of Parker and Max’s romance, Parker and Max have been best friends since they were eleven and Max ha been in love with Parker pretty much the same length of time. Max stepped in to help Parker after his wife died and they raised Parker’s kids together. Teddy and Cindy are so cute and Max really loves those kids so there was no hesitation on his part.
As soon as Parker realised he had feeling for Max, their romance unfolded beautifully. I really enjoyed the fact that Parker totally owned his feelings and didn’t really question what was happening.
The love in this family was a total joy and I enjoyed their story as it unfolded.
Low drama but very high in all the feels!
