About this listen
When an elderly woman is shot in what appears to be a tragic accident, Shetland detective Jimmy Perez is called to investigate the mystery.
The sparse landscape and the emptiness of the sea have bred a fierce and secretive people. As Jimmy looks to the islanders for answers, he finds instead two feuding families whose envy, greed and bitterness have lasted generations. Then there's another murder and, as the spring weather shrouds the island in claustrophobic mists, Jimmy must dig up old secrets to stop a new killer from striking again....

Splendid
Joy - the Kenny Blyth narrated version was released just as I was ready for it. plot not quite as good as the previous two in the series, but tidied up neatly and credibly. As always, informative about the history and way of life in the Shetlands.

Red bones
Another brilliant Shetland book by Ann Cleeves. Fantastic story superbly narrated by Kenny Blyth.
I’m in the process of re listening to all of the Shetland books in order and each book seems better than the first time.

another good story from Ann Cleeves
If you have read the other books before this one you won't be disappointed . Jimmy Parez is a really cool character in a quite lonely man sort of way but he knows people and how to listen to them. His quite love story with Fran is beautiful and heartwarming.
The character of Sandy comes to the fore a bit more in this story with family ties and problems that make these stories very relatable.
I would recommend this book for an easy read or listen.

Just as good
I wasn’t sure whether to get this one after reading some hesitant reviews, but I loved it just as much as the others.

Brilliant reading!
I’ll listen to just about anything Kenny Blyth narrates. His readings are sublime. He manages to make every single character sound different. A class act and a good story as usual from Ann Cleeves.

Another good read
This is the third book in the Jimmy Perez / Shetland series.
I have been listening to them in order - and the characters and location are taking shape in my imagination.
The narrative is well read by Kenny Blythe who has a rich voice and a good pace.
Some reviewers found this book disappointing but I found the opposite. I appreciated the gradual unfurling of the story.
The description of life on the islands is compelling listening.
The historical details of the Hanseatic league and WW2 ‘the Shetland bus’ were woven skilfully into the narrative.
I feel as if I am learning a lot about the Isles as well as enjoying a good ‘yarn’

A bit slow
It is well written but I found it a bit slow and almost sleepy at times, I enjoy more pace.
