About this listen
They’d been through it all and emerged victorious. Now they stood on the very brink of a whole new life bursting with possibilities and renewed hope for the future. Colin will take the bar exam and begin his promising career as an assistant commonwealth attorney for the city of Charlottesville. Joshua receives his second PhD and adds forensic psychologist to his list of achievements. What could possibly go wrong?
And then:
Three students are abducted from the University of Virginia campus. All three are recovered alive but have been sexually assaulted and brutally beaten. From his new position as assistant commonwealth attorney, Colin partners with both campus and city police in a combined task force determined to solve these horrific crimes and put the perpetrator behind bars. But can they succeed before the "campus abductor" strikes again?
The abusive and volatile husband of one of Joshua’s patients threatens his life. Suddenly Joshua is under siege as he is stalked both at work and at home by an unstable assailant.
Entangled in both these life-threatening situations, Colin struggles to protect both the university he loves and the man he adores. But...
“Oh God, Josh, my sweet love, if anything’s happened to you....” His voice trailed off, unable to voice the unthinkable.
“NO!" Joshua’s mind shrieked. "I can’t give up! I won’t give up! Colin will come! He’ll come!”
Warning: This novel discusses sensitive material that may be distressing to some listeners. Relevant Law explores themes of abduction, physical violence, and non-graphic sexual assault.

Gripping, angsty, sweet and wonderful!
I fell in love with Janice Jarrell’s books when I listened to Love’s Magic over two years ago. Since then, I’ve read nearly every book she’s published. Relevant Law continues the story of Colin and Joshua as Colin takes the Virginia bar exam and prepares to start his new career as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney. While I believe that you would get the most enjoyment out of this story if you’ve read other books in this series, it can be read as a standalone story.
Janice Jarrell couldn’t have found a better voice actor to portray her characters than Walker Williams. He captures the personalities of the characters so perfectly that they came alive for me while listening, even more than when I read the book. There are a lot of different characters in this story and the voices he uses makes it easy to distinguish who is speaking.
Relevant Law contains subject matter that some might find disturbing (see the warning in the blurb) but know that the story is ultimately uplifting. It’s a story of how enduring love, and faith in that love, can help you get through some of the darkest moments that life throws at you.
While some readers might find this book a bit too sugary sweet at times – neither Colin nor Josh are shy about professing their love for each other and the endearments they use are numerous – I think the sweet factor helps to offset the darker nature found in parts of the story. Colin and Josh also manage to get in a lot of hot, sexy time. 🥰
This listener can certainly tell from the writing that Janice Jarrell is passionate about the stories she writes for her beloved characters and I think that inspires readers to love them, too. I know that I’m not tired of reading about Colin and Josh, or their good friends David and Nate. I hope there will be more stories set in this world.

Great instalment of a great series
I’m always hesitant to become invested in a series where it’s the same couple over and over. I mean, that’s real life, I guess, but I’m just as happy to see a couple get their HEA at the end of a book and then move on to another couple. At first, that’s what I believed Ms. Jarrell was doing. The first book in this series very much centers around David and Nate – a lovely couple. In the background was Colin and Josh. The next book was their story. I figured a third couple would emerge in the third book. I was wrong. Ms. Jarrell keeps going back to these two men as they navigate their lives. I figured I’d be bored of them by now.
I mean, this book starts with Colin taking the bar exam. Yawn fest. Except it wasn’t. I knew he was going to pass – this is Colin, after all – but I wanted to see how that kind of pressure affected him. In the past he’d almost buckled. But would Josh’s love be enough to bring him through? Then Colin moves into the prosecutor’s office and I was fascinated by the inner workings. And, all the while, Josh has interesting clients who keep the forensic psychologist on his toes.
From the blurb, and from Ms. Jarrell’s previous books, I knew something bad was going to happen. And I knew it’d turn out okay. But okay is super relative. How much damage could be wrought? And what were the ramifications? As always, this author doesn’t shy away from going to the dark places. But I knew there’d be light – and there was.
I have to say I’m enjoying Walker Williams’s narration of these books. I really enjoy his performances. This book would be a nice end to the series, but I suspect there’s at least one more to come. I’ll jump on that one as well.

Superb story and performance about the love between two great characters
My favorite thing about every story with Colin and Josh are those moments where one of them looks at the other as though he can't believe how lucky he is to have this amazing man with him. Then, he says that out loud. Hearing that awe come through in Walker Williams' performance is wonderful. These two have an unbreakable bond. That is the thing that saves them in this story in ways both small and life threatening. Initially, we get to see Colin starting his full-time job after passing the bar and Josh supports him through all his struggles with co-workers and cases. One of my favorite small moments in the story and one I could not wait to hear live in this performance was in Chapter 4 where Colin reminds an opposing counsel in no uncertain terms he's "Campbell-Abrams" emphasis on that dual last name. His pride in carrying Josh's name leaps out of the audio. Colin returns the support as we get to see Josh at work with patients in the clinic. The great thing about these everyday scenes is we learn so much about these two and how their minds work. It's always wonderful to get to know two smart men. Then, just as we've settled into daily life with them, the darkness that has been lurking in the story comes for them in a shattering, visceral way. Both will need all their love and all their smarts to survive and as a listener, you'll be waiting with bated breath, and a breaking heart like Colin - hoping for the best and fearing the worst. This was hard to listen to in places as Walker Williams made Colin's pain and Josh's fear so real. This is a do not miss story and audio performance.

Danger From Different Directions.
MM, Contemporary, Romance. A compelling story with action and drama throughout. The second book in the series and needs to be read/listened to in order for maximum enjoyment and full understanding as the couple's story continues from the first book. I thoroughly enjoyed this intriguing story which has a guaranteed HEA.
