About this listen

Everyone keeps telling me I have to move on. And so here I am, walking down the road where he died, trying to remember him the right way.

A year after her husband Zach's death, Lizzie goes to lay flowers where his fatal accident took place. As she makes her way along the motorway, she thinks about their life together. She wonders whether she has changed since Zach died. She wonders if she will ever feel whole again. At last she reaches the spot. And there, tied to a tree, is a bunch of lilies. The flowers are addressed to her husband. Someone has been there before her.

Lizzie loved Zach. She really did. But she's starting to realise she didn't really know him. Or what he was capable of.

Captivating Story

Would you listen to Remember Me This Way again? Why?

I would definitely listen to Remember Me This Way again, as there are so many little details that you can pick up on the second time round!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'm not sure I had a favourite character, but I enjoyed listening to the two different versions of both main characters, it was interesting to hear their versions of the same event

What does Penelope Rawlins and Daniel Weyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

It is nice to have two different voices; it breaks up the story. Instead of solely listening to one, female voice, or one, male voice, you have both!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, if I could have I would have!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book, and very nearly missed my stop on the train (twice!) as I was so enthralled!

A really good listen!

Where does Remember Me This Way rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lizzie, without a doubt. I could feel her curiosity and insecurity.

What about Penelope Rawlins and Daniel Weyman ’s performance did you like?

Yes. Penelope Rawlins got all the voices just right and was able to add subtle nuances so that I immediately knew which character was speaking without being told who it was. None of the characters sounded ridiculous which is often a problem in audiobooks especially when a woman is trying to sound like a man - Penelope Rawlins did this extremely well (which is why I gave her 5 stars for her performance).

Daniel Weyman was excellent as Zach.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was hard to put down and I looked forward to putting it on whenever I had the chance to listen. I listened to the second half in two or three sessions as I was so enthralled with the story and wanted to find out how it ended - thank goodness for the Christmas holidays which gave me time to do this!

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth a go. A really good listen!

Remember Me This Way

I loved the twisty turny nature of this book, which centred around the life of Lizzie Carter, a school librarian whose husband, Zach, died in a car accident a year ago. Slowly, Lizzie begins to discover that the charming husband she loved was a man carrying a great number of secrets.

The writing was sharp and all of the characters were well-drawn. Sometimes I wish that Lizzie could have been much more forceful with other people, but that was the point of the story really.

Both narrators were excellent; the female voice reminded me of Olivia Coleman.

Disappointed

Lie with me was such a brilliant book I wanted to
Immediately read everything she’s written.

This started so well and then became increasingly dull and unbelievable. The zac character seemed to stack up better than Lizzie did and the narration was a bit irritating. Shame but will try one more!

Seriously one of the best stories ever

Absolutely loved this. This is a real 5 star book. I loved how the story was revealed in s tantalizing way by swapping between present and past. I loved all the characters in different ways even the dark ones. The story wasn't actually what I thought it would be which was great as it wasn't predictable. It moves at a reasonable pace constantly revealing little titbits that construct the truth.
The narration of Zach's part was a fantastic performance that really made me feel like I was watching a movie.
The ending was unpredictable and I loved it for that! I can't say why though as it would give the story away.
All books I've listened to so far have had an aspect I didn't like but this is genuinely the first time I would not change a thing.
This book deserves five stars in all categories and I would encourage everyone to give it a go.

A great find!

What did you like best about this story?

I had not come across this author before. She writes beautifully. I was struck by how almost imperceptively, quite soon into the book, a disquieting sense of malevolence built-up. I will not give any spoilers, suffice to say the characters are very well drawn with a really light touch. This includes an excellent, but subtly written psychopath and the psychological frailties of others.

Which character – as performed by Penelope Rawlins and Daniel Weyman – was your favourite?

Both were excellent narrators. Penelope's performance of Onie was exceptional. Daniel only voiced one character, but did so brilliantly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It could have been, but its too long.

Any additional comments?

I worried throughout about Howard, but will say no more.

not sure about this one

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. I struggled to finish it because I felt the story dragged on too long which did not motivate me to continue listening

Surprisingly disappointing

Being a huge fan of Sabine Durrant’s exquisitely observational writing, I have to say the characters in this novel mostly just irritated me. Zach was cruel and evil, Lizzie was weak and pathetic, her horrible lazy sister took constant advantage, her friend Jane kept bullying her into doing things, Aîné was a spoilt, entitled, self-centred brat with a vile mother and twat of a father. The nicest character by far was Howard the dog and even then I think he should have bitten more people.
By the end I no longer cared what happened.

Riveting!

Right from the beginning you are drawn in to this tale of obsession. But who is obsessed? Zak? Lizzie? Neither? Or both?
Loved the twists this book takes, and right up till the end you are not sure if she's right or wrong.
Loved it, definitely recommend this book!
