"Told from multiple points of view, this raw and painfully real portrayal of insecurities, guilt, shame and postnatal anxiety is complex, nuanced and moving." (Guardian)

This one felt like hard work - not enough mystery
I enjoyed "Anatomy of a Scandal" but I did find it a little dry so I suppose it was not a huge surprise that I have given up on "Reputation".
Hands up, I am not a political person so this probably was a huge factor in my not engaging but beyond that I just found it heavy going, like homework at times.
The themes of internet revenge by exes and contrasting tight laws on very innocent images of those under the age of consent was very interesting but after a while it seemed too worth and rather like hard work.
Tabloid journalism also a bit of a turn off for me - all a bit gritty and not the escapism I was looking for. Just felt all a bit too up against the coal face for me who enjoys meaty mysteries with a bit of glam escapism and if possibly a glossy, luxe destination thriller as an antidote for the all encompassing drabness of recent times.
I loved the narration by Julie Teal, who put me in mind of the gorgeous dulcet toned Samantha Bond.
I thought the writing was excellent too.
Do I feel terribly shallow returning this title?
Yes, I do as I feel it was a quality listen, just all a bit hard work for me and too little mystery or plot twists although the stalking sequences were very gripping.
Also court cases not my bag either, so I just abandoned ship as life too short to plough though something less exciting than real life.
If you like politics, realism and meaty topics this is for you, if you just want escapism - imagining you are on a sunlounger on a Caribbean beach with a cocktail - feeling blissfully relaxed yet intrigued by fiendishly clever murder mysteries featuring beautiful people preferably in fabulous locations this might be a bit hard going!
Great writing, great narration - just felt like too much hard work - plus all the refences to hearts going pitter pat and racing and thudding and skipping a beat actually made me feel very anxious and uncomfortable especially as a bed time read.
I actually feel relieved I will not have to finish it and feeling like a weight is lifted.
Phew that is a good, good feeling!!!
Sorry Sarah Vaughan -

Political drama with pace and intelligent protagonists- I loved this novel
Part thriller, part courtroom drama, part feminist polemic, Sarah Vaughan’s Reputation should be cemented by this well-written, fast-paced novel. For nine years I lived in Kennington and my local pub was in Cleaver Square, and the setting is not the only aspect of the story that resonated; eerily, I was assaulted on the doorstep of my upper ground floor flat much like protagonist in the novel. We’re talking the late 1980s in my case, but dispiritingly for Labour MP Emma, little has changed. Set in 2021-2, it’s very topical, and griping from start to finish. The twists are believably reflections of the characters portrayed, and the pace fast and unrelenting. Julie Teal is the perfect narrator, and If politics and a cast of interesting characters sounds like your cup of tea, I highly recommend this.

Disappointing
Not the authors best which I suppose is the curse of writing an excellent book, forever to be compared.
Based on my favourite topics, politics, current affairs and the law, it was therefore, surprisingly disappointing.

Can’t handle the Narrator’s sickly voice.
Stereotypical characters. I wish someone would come up with something original! Same sort of characters as her other books. Too long winded.?

ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON!
I’ve been a member of audible for years but never reviewed a book before. However, I thought this book so excellent I had to write one. I don’t understand the negative reviews; unless they were written by men?For me, Sara Vaughan has again made a very good point regarding misogyny and coercive control towards women and girls. Also, I thought she made a very good point about bullying in that one never knows what has or is going on in another’s life; both bully and victim. I COULD NOT stop listening. Now I’m looking forward to her next book. Thank you, Sarah

it’s ok, but a bit slow
quite a lot of unnecessary description at the expense of story and pace. The narrator needs to work on her Sunderland accent

Boring Boring Boring
The court monologue is repeated and repeated and the story is predictable, and such a disappointment after ‘Anatomy of a Scandal’. The feminist theme and left wing slant on everything becoming monotonous.
