About this listen

At Fourwinds they gather: Alice and Ralph, Patricia and Peter, to celebrate the marriage of their children. But the bride is nowhere to be seen. As both families are drawn together, the past floods through the corridors of the old house. What secret has Ralph been keeping from his wife? What is it about Alice's wartime encounter with Peter that has haunted her ever since? And what caused Sarah to vanish without a word?

Excellent family saga

Excellent narration of a family saga imaginatively told through the various characters. Author has understanding of the issues of their time.

Compelling and atmospheric

What was one of the most memorable moments of Return to Fourwinds?

Elisabeth Gifford has a gift for moving the plot along and keeping the listener engaged without giving away the real basis of the plot. I really didn't see the reason the Sarah's anguish coming.

Which character – as performed by Nathaniel Tapley – was your favourite?

Nathaniel Tapley is a very good narrator. There were no embarrassing accents or affected manner isms but it was still easy to distinguish the characters from one another. I loved the lilt of his voice and all his characterisation but if I had to choose, Ralph as a boy would be my favourite.

Any additional comments?

A great book - I will be on the lookout for more from both Elisabeth Gifford and Nathaniel Tapley.

Unexpected and compelling

I used to be wary of what I called 'Sagas' and there are some very bad ones out there, but Elisabeth Gifford is one of the best; this is even better than the last one. I loved it and couldn't stop listening. It was well-written, avoided cliche and kept me hooked until the end. Great comfort listening for duvet days.
