We are what we need to be.

Three humans - a soldier, damaged by his time in Afghanistan, a paraplegic ex-combat pilot and a psychotic math genius engineer - are abducted from Earth to serve as the crew on a prototype alien warship by the ship's AI, known as Morgan. After receiving nannies and augmentation, the team travel, first equiping themselves then readying to fight the Empire, to keep Earth and it's people from subjugation and bring freedom to the galaxy .But things are never quite that simple...

An enjoyable tale with some interesting ideas. The writing is occasionally repetitive but mostly well delivered and the characters are well drawn. Narration by the English accented Rhys David is excellent, clear, well paced and with properly placed intonation and emphasis, adding interest and excitement to the text. Additionally, each protagonist is individually and distinctly voiced: a good performance.

Whilst the story is not entirely original, it is intriguing with interesting possibilities, not just constant battling. A good story in it's own right and as a start to a new series. My thanks to the rights holder of Revenant, who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy.

I thoroughly Enjoyed this one.

Anyone that like a bit of scifi space alien type of books, will love this.
Characters are well developed, and new ones appearing to join the crew each bring something new to the team.
Looking forward to listening to the next book.

Struggled with this

3 hours in and I am not sure I can push myself to endure any more of this book. The plot doesn't seem particularly origonal or engaging but what makes it even harder to get through is the truly awful narration. Rhys David seems unable to give voice to any character without making them sound like a slightly camp, posh Englishman. The very few accents he does try come off comically badly. The Americans that all sound like Foghorn Leghorn or the female Israeli pilot that sound like an Australian bloke.

Maybe it gets better... but I doubt I will ever find out.
