About this listen

Captain Biggar, big-game hunter and all round tough guy, should make short work of the two bookies who have absconded with his winnings after a freak double made him a fortune. But on this occasion Honest Patch Perkins and his clerk are not as they seem. In fact they're not bookies at all, but the impoverished Bill Belfry, Ninth Earl of Rowcester and his temporary butler, Jeeves.

Bertie Wooster has gone away to a special school teaching the aristocracy to fend for itself 'in case the social revolution sets in with even greater severity'. But Jeeves will prove just as resourceful without his young master, and brilliant brainwork may yet square the impossible circle for all concerned.

Excellent story and performance

Having stuck with Jonathan Cecil for a while I was hesitant to try a new reader but holy smokes Lambert might even top Cecil. Really enjoyed this performance and story!

For completists

It is Wodehouse, all right, minus any subtlety of the earlier works.
It should not come as a surprise that this was originally written as a play. It sounds exactly like an amateur theatre piece. The voices of Sir Bill and Rory are gratingly overdone, you just wish they would stop speaking as soon as they utter the first syllable or a gulp.

Jolly silly fun

Classic Wodehouse silly and chucklesome fun among the early 20th century gentry. Well read/performed, too. No actual Bertie Wooster in this one but similar characters.

Jeeves to the rescue

I wasn't sure how it would work ,Jeeves but no Bertie.
Worked out wonderfully. Great cast of new characters.
And the narrator was almost as good as Jonathan Cecil.
Worth a second listen just to hear the Colonel again.

Silly charming nonsense.

Predictably silly and gently entertaining. Ideal to listen to while relaxing. Always a happy ending 👏

Jeeves without Wooster

Wonderfully convoluted plot as always but I missed Bertie’s nuttiness. Well narrated - though I miss Jonathan Cecil.

Decent story

A decent story, but Wodehouse's weakest in this series to date. I personally couldn't get on with the reader but he does put in every effort so I hope many others do.
