About this listen

Two centuries after mankind drove itself to the brink of extinction, a new civilization rises from the ashes of what was once Great Britain. But when deadly strife breaks out among their ranks, the teenage son of one prominent family finds himself fleeing in the dead of night, only to wind up shipwrecked on the forbidden continent of America. Armed with only his wit and the most unexpected of allies, the teenager struggles to survive in a wasteland filled with unspeakable horrors. In the end, he must uncover the one secret that can either save his own people, or spell doom for mankind forever.

Excellent storytelling of a lively yarn

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Depends entirely on the friend.

If it's someone who enjoys a good yarn, but isn't overly bothered by the occasional plot hole and dodgy science, then yes. Certainly the tale is told well, with the narration being rich in character and quite engaging.

If you’ve listened to books by E. J. Robinson before, how does this one compare?

I have not.

What does Malk Williams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Malk Williams provides a fine range of characterisation; the characters each had easily identifiable voices, and the tale in general was told with an engaging level of expression and pace.

Initially - the draw of an Audiobook was the opportunity to use this as 'travel entertainment' with my family while travelling north to Scotland.

That said - I am someone who likes fairly hard science in his SF, so I'm not really the target audience for this book... indeed if it hadn't been an audio-book that I could stick on 'in the background' while driving, I probably would quite probably have abandoned this book part way through.

So - what Malk 'brought to the story' for me was a relatively painless way to get to the end of the tale and find out 'what happens'.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"As stirring tale of survival in a dystopian post apocalyptic future filled with mutants and savage tribes"

With a footnote of:

"Warning - may not contain believable science"

Any additional comments?

Fairly stock science fantasy.

Loved it!

What did you like most about Robinson Crusoe 2244?

This book was great! It's been many years since I've read the original Robinson Crusoe and I don't remember much about it so I'm not sure of the similarities. I'd see if I could find an audio version of it, but after listening to this I'm afraid I'd probably not enjoy the original as much! lol This is definitely worth listening to! Great performance by Malk Williams as well!
