About this listen
Romancing the Sur tells of the passion it takes to embrace the chaos, impermanence, and wild beauty of life on the Big Sur coast. Up a dirt road, on the ridge Henry Miller called home, you'll find views of the lunar goddess, lupine blossom sorbet, and bathing in a claw-foot tub as condors soar above. There are also life-changing wildfires, sneaky rattlesnakes, and a host of marvelous eccentric characters with wisdom to share.
Praise for the book:
“Linda Sonrisa’s writing, like a car she once had, is convertible - she converts her experiences of Big Sur so that we get to step into her rural, effervescent life. She’ll take you for a spin in her red Miata along the highway's tight curves, and you too will find that “everything is beautiful again". Get right up close to her experience of the transformation of fire into ash into gratitude. Here’s a writer who listens with such care that she can hear a friend’s sadness in a raven’s voice and his joy in singing finches. If we could all live our lives with such attention the world would be a better place. If we could all write like this, wouldn’t that be something!” (Patrice Vecchione, author of Step into Nature: Nurturing Imagination & Spirit in Everyday Life)
"It's very romantic!" (Lawrence Ferlinghetti, poet, publisher, activist, author, painter, co-founder City Lights Bookstore)

"Beetox is better than botox."
A series of short, sometimes humorous, often lyrical, always heartfelt, comments, recollections and musings on the passing of the author's time in the Big Sur. Colours dazzle as the seasons change, beads on a sfring, with wild strawberries, bird song and bees, a rattlesnake, mosquitoes and a fire, music, people, laughter and play. The whole is far more than the combination of the pieces.
Linda Sonrisa Jones reads her book, often a mistake for the author to narrate. Perhaps someone else could have given a more polished performance, but Ms.Jones's voice gifts the reader with authentic emotion, and even slightly flawed, it is perfect.
My heartfelt thanks to the rights holder of Romancing the Sur, who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. It filled a dreary grey day in the wet winter of Cornwall with light and joy.
