Summary

Laura is married, she has a good home, and she is due to give birth to her first child any day now. But her perfect world is shattered when her husband comes home flustered and afraid. He's made a terrible mistake. He's done a bad thing. And now the police are going to be looking for him....

There's only one way out of this. He wants to run. But he won't go without his wife.

Laura knows it is wrong. They should stay and face the music. But she doesn't want to lose her man. She can't raise this baby alone. So she agrees to go with him....

But as time goes by, Laura worries that she has made a terrible mistake. They should never have ran. But it's too late for that now. Her life is ruined. The only question is: how will it end?

Another gripping psychological thriller from the author of Til Death Do Us Part and The Tutor.

Not a bad story

Didn’t gel with the narration, no flow and accent was slightly annoying, quite wooden reading

Great twists

Great story. Keeps you guessing what happens next. Like the “Doctor’s wife” series by the same author.

Awful Narration

The actual plot of this is pretty good. Possibly a little wordy in places, like when you have a word count to hit so use 3 words for every one. Its biggest problem however is the narration. The female sounds like a primary school child asked to read aloud in front of the class. And whereas she has a natural Cumbrian accent in keeping with the setting of the story, her male counterpart when reading as Laura produces a bizarre half Scouse half Geordie attempt. A better choice of narrator would have really made this book so much more enjoyable.

Good read

I enjoyed this but Laura irritated me so so much! She just came across so selfish, stupid & bratty. Also things were over explained or pointed out at times which was annoying. It made some of the story line not believable and I found myself getting annoyed when it was her turn in the book. Like when he said he found the phone under the bed & then the bed was flush to the floor, she thought it loads of times, in reality you’d probs just think he meant on the floor by the bed. Just little picky things that got to me sorry

However the twist was good, the plot was good. The ending wasn’t what I wanted, I wanted it to go the other way as she deserved it 🫣

Kept me engaged, good narration

Good unusual story, shame it got so far fetched, seemed to suddenly wrap up with stretched reasoning... . Narrative was really good good.

Easy listening

I enjoyed this book, easy listening and an interesting storyline. The writing wasn’t fantastic, and I wonder if this is a first novel for the author. I’m sure he could get better over time and would listen to another of his books. Slightly unbelievable story - but that’s escapism for you isn’t it? I liked the way the story was told by the characters in the first person which is a fairly unusual approach. Also nice to hear northern accents, makes a nice change!
