Summary
What's worse than a child with a magnifying glass, a garden full of ants, and a brilliant mind full of mischief?
Try Al, a well-meaning but impish artificial intelligence with the mind of a six-year-old and a penchant for tantrums. Hope Takeda, a lab assistant charged with educating and socializing Al, soon discovers that day care is a lot more difficult when your kid is an evolving and easily frightened A.I.
When Al manages to access the Internet and escape the lab days before his official unveiling, Hope and her team embark on a mission to contain him - before he causes any real trouble.
Soon the NSA is on Al's back, the US Army is fighting a brigade of mass-produced robots, and a wannabe cyberterrorist is looking to silence Al permanently. After months spent "raising" Al, Hope knows she's running out of time - and she's not sure she'll be able to protect him. Will she manage to control the unruly A.I. and quell a global crisis, or will Al outsmart them once and for all?

Unexpected ray of hope
having thought a lot about AI, reading books n watching videos, I can say that AI almost always wins n dominates.
this was a ray of hope where the AI just backs off. did not expect that. maybe there is some hope yet.

interesting story theme
liked the overall theme. the first half of the book was my favourite. one criticism was that I found there were a lot of military characters and it was hard to keep track of who was who. I don't think I'd have this problem if I were reading it. Voices of military characters were different but similar enough for me to loose track, and i found that I didn't really care about most of them as characters... may as well have just been one or two.

Great fun while still discussing key ideas
OK so this is so close to my view of AI that I was bound to enjoy it, but there was all the usual Scott Meyer humour and light touches. He manages to get you engaged and keeps you there with a sensibly paced story line. Great ending too if totally predicable.

"HE SAID!" narrator
unfortunately the narrator makes the somewhat repetitive he said she said, stand out more by almost shouting each time the "HE SAID!"

AI story of what just might happen
Congratulations to Scott on the creation of a all too real story about what would happen with a "run away" AI ... fantastic story really enjoyed the twists

Bit predictable, but in that friendly warming way. Like a hug.

Is it the greatest book ever written? Nahhh. Is it an enjoyable, silly romp through America full of nerdy bits? Yep.
The reader wasn’t the best and definitely struggled with the male voices , perhaps a dual reader would have been better but she played the main protagonist well. It won’t win awards but it was a good listen whilst doing the housework.

Entertaining
Light hearted story with excellent narration. Could have done with some more synonyms for the word ‘said’.

He said she said
I like the author and have read many of his other books; this is not his best but worth a listen.
The biggest issue is the same as with many audiobooks the " he said, she said" reputation. With many book now in multiple formats. Surely an author or editor can have a search function and re enter variety as it stand out like a sore thumb when you notice it

The origin of Skippy The Magnificent explained?
Not certain, but I think the author may have tipped his hat to Craig Alanson's Expeditionary Force series at one point in this book.
Thoroughly enjoyed this story, and was especially impressed with Angela Dawe's performance as narrator; she does man voices far better than most men do lady voices!
