Summary
From the number one international best-selling author of Holy Island and Impostor.
After a busy year fighting crime, DCI Ryan and his team of murder detectives are enjoying a festive season of goodwill, mulled wine and, in the case of DS Phillips, a stottie cake or two - that is, until a freak snowstorm forces their car off the main road and into the remote heart of Northumberland. Their Christmas spirit is soon tested when they’re forced to find shelter inside England’s most haunted castle, where they’re the uninvited guests at a ‘Candlelit Ghost Hunt’. It’s all fun and games - until one of the guests is murdered. It seems no mortal hand could have committed the crime, so Ryan and co. must face the spectres living inside the castle walls to uncover the grisly truth, before another ghost joins their number....
Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

Ryan's christmas
If these books get much shorter I won't be buying. It was like agatha Christies orient express. Not as good as the previous books

lovely to hear old friends ..BUT
the villan was obvious as soon as you met him, the reason for the first murder not guessable but you knew he was linked. A lovely ref herring to the second murder with so many nods to The Orient Express plot. But somehow it wasn't the best outing if Ryan and co. The good news is lovely to hear but also made clear far too soon. It was great to hear the familiar voices but the plot setting far fetched and then the problems so trite. Still I look forward to the next book, with fingers crossed that there will be a return to form

Tired old tripe
This so called detective thriller is one long cliche of the genre. The resolution is drawn from numerous similar stories and the characters lamentable stereotypes. How ever was it published in the first place? The author should take a long hard look at her output, try reading some genuinely admirable examples by Ruth Rendell and Susan Hill and try at least to learn from their mastery.

One of the worst in the series-avoid.
Good story, develops steadily then appears very crammed and hurried towards the end. Overall it appears too short with a lack of depth. Could have been much better and overall is very disappointing. The last two books in this series are well below the standard of those earlier in the series and this one leaves the reader feeling cheated and fails to meet the level expected by the loyal series reader- avoid.

Too short
Another great book by this author. I have read them all and loved them all. My only complaint is the story is far too short and I feel a bit cheated. 4hrs and 1 second is more like a novella to me. I wish LJ Ross would take this into account and make her great books longer. Again the narrator was first class.

Nearly my Favourite Ryan story..
The DCI Ryan Books are predictable and usually smattered with a fair amount of gore. I stick with the books because I like the characters (much more than the stories) although Jack should of been sacked for his antics. I liked this book more because it was a little gentler (although there were two murders). The description of the castle , the real life Chillingham Castle was atmospheric and I wished LJ had explored the ghostliness aspect of it all in more detail. I liked that our detectives had a private life and their interaction. I like the genuine warmth between the characters and I really like a happy ending. If you like the DCI Ryan novels you will like this slightly shortened story .
