Nancy Mitford meets Margaret Drabble
A very enjoyable story of womens’ lives in aristocratic circles over four generations from the Second World War to the end of the 20th century - courtship, marriage, work and motherhood. Their often privileged existence does not prevent turbulent and often shocking experiences of sexual assault and mental illness. It offers fascinating accounts of social change in the period, including the debutante world of the London Season and provides a moving and redemptive conclusion.
