Summary
Sailing, Yachts and Yarns is a selection of Tom Cunliffe’s funniest, wisest and most thought-provoking writing from the pages of Yachting Monthly. Tom’s love of language and sense of humour shine through as he recalls the wealth of sinners and saints he has met on docksides from Southampton to South America, Greenwich to Greenland and Newtown to New York. He has a gift for capturing the magic of sail and finding pearls of practical wisdom in the most unlikely nautical adventures. Sailing, Yachts and Yarns is a lively miscellany of a wit, wisdom and wonder.
It will make you laugh and make you think – and make you want to cast off to enjoy the delights of life afloat.

Great yarns from this fantastic sailor and author
As a sailor myself this book is both fascinating, informative and educational. I will no doubt read it again and again

Fellow admirer of all things Sea related.
Mr Cunliffe’s ability to share his tales on and off the water is fantastic, I enjoyed every minute and urge others to do the same.

easy to listen to, witty, dry but usually on the mark commentary on a wide variety of topics. Good food for thought, honestly delivered.

Informative and fun sea tales
A string of magazine articles published as a book but none the worse for this and makes for easy listening for the armchair sailor.

Wonderful
I’m old enough and have been around boats enough to find memory after memory rekindled. Sadly I never sailed as far or as wide as Tom has but his warmth, humour, knowledge, experience held me throughout. Add in his dislike of poorly applied authority and his evident respect and concern for our planet there is a lot to encourage us to think about how we lead our lives without hectoring or lecturing. I am delighted that I selected this book.

A natural storyteller
If you've seen Tony on TV or YouTube you'll know he's a natural storyteller with a evocative voice. This collection of short stories is great listening, even for non-sailors.

Perfect for a novice like me.
I could listen to this three times and learn more each time. Tom Cunliffe has a lovely down to earth voice, perfect intonation.

Entertaining, light hearted and intersting
What made the experience of listening to Sailing, Yachts and Yarns the most enjoyable?
If you're a cruising sailor, you'll appreciate many of the situations that the author describes.
What does Tom Cunliffe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Being the author, Tom Cunliffe reads the stroies in the way that head wrote them for PBO and engages you in how he felt at the time
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Although you don't need to , being an anthology of shorter stoies, it is well enough read and entertainingenough that you could easily listen to it in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
This is a book for people interwsted in sailing. You don't need to be an experienced sailor to 'get' the humour, however and it is well read. It takes a light-hearted look at some of the situations the author has found himself in over many years of sailing yachts all around the world, both porfessionally and for pleasure. he doesn't take himself too seriously and each story will have the you putting yourself on the boat with him.
A light easy going listen. Thoroughly recommended.
