Summary
As the traitors tighten their grip on Terra, Rogal Dorn must marshal the Imperial hosts to weather the storm. But not all of the defenders will survive the onslaught....
Listen to it because:
Dan Abnett returns to the Horus Heresy! Experience one of the crucial stages of the Siege, as Rogal Dorn and Horus match wits in a game of Regicide where the board is the Throneworld itself, and one wrong move could lead to utter devastation....
The story:
The Traitor Host of Horus Lupercal tightens its iron grip on the Palace of Terra, and one by one the walls and bastions begin to crumple and collapse. Rogal Dorn, Praetorian of Terra, redoubles his efforts to keep the relentless enemy at bay, but his forces are vastly outnumbered and hopelessly outgunned. Dorn simply cannot defend everything. Any chance of survival now requires sacrifice, but what battles dare he lose so that others can be won? Is there one tactical stroke, one crucial combat, that could turn the tide forever and win the war outright?

The best yet
The narrative and narration and writing is to me the best of the series, it's epic in all aspects. The silent sister narration is perfect and I'm glad it was voiced by a female narrator, she was amazing. I'm on my second play through so much detail. Thank you for a great ride.

The best book of the siege so far. Brilliant work by Abnett and feels like they story is back on the right track after The First Wall

Great
Easily the best in the series so far. The other books have a rushed feeling but this one feels as if it is packed with plots and side-plots. It easily has the biggest roster of characters out of them all and the action is definitely exciting. There are a few unresolved issues however, I believe these will be explored in the future instalments as there are wider ramifications to the stories expressed here. Dan Abnett just redeemed this series for me.

Pure Heartache and joy in a marathon Rollercoaster
More Excellence from Dan Abnett and Fantastically read by Emma and Jonathan. The depth given to the characters at the right moment by Dan really fosters an emotional tie to them. Emma's reading of the actions at the closing stages almost had me grabbing a tissue for the most minor of the characters that engendered the listener to the normal troops dieing.

Just picks up steam and never stops
A little bit slow to start but once it begins it doesn't stop, in the words of one particular first captain "I don't want this to stop".
Well written, great mix of performance by Emma and Jonathan, a good set up for future audio. Would like to hear more of the Silent Sisters.

Exceptional!
Dispite this book being within a sort of mini series of the HH, I must say...
This book is exceptional. It is extremely well written and presented. You will enjoy it thoroughly. Some wonderful turns just when you thought they were all gone. A true Dan Abnet book.

Pretty decent, worth a credit, but not cash money.
Was a decent listen, but nothing overly stellar. The battles at the end were badass, and the sections with Krole were a refreshing new perspective. Too many long sections focused on less important in necessary characters like Grammaticus or the humans that are introduced only to die.
