About this listen
'There was a vehicle pulling up outside. I heard the booted feet running up the stairs, then the hammering on the apartment door and the shouting 'Open up! Gestapo!'
You're fifteen years old. You're in love. Only this is Nazi-ruled Berlin and he's a Jew, so it's against the law to love him. There are spies everywhere. And they're taking the last Jews away from Berlin. To the gas chambers....
A compelling novel for older children about love and courage in the face of danger, from acclaimed author Leslie Wilson.

excellent story-telling
This is a well written, powerful and moving story about life in Nazi occupied Germany before and during the second world war. Told in the first person and from the point of view of the heroine, the Author vividly describes the horror of the air rades on Berlin, the constant fear of being a jew in Hitler's Germany, and the lives of ordinary German civilions, which weren't so different from life in Britain. I would have liked some more details about what went on in the concentration camp, as I had no idea there were concentration camps for non-jewish German prisoners. I also thought the ending was rather abrupt. There were a couple of questions left unanswered. However, this is a compelling and gripping read and a book not to be missed by anyone who enjoys books set in that era.
