About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A ground-breaking look at the power of sensitivity to transform our relationships, career and life, from world-leading experts.

Do you have a heightened sense of empathy? Do you often notice details that others ignore? Do you ever feel overwhelmed in a busy, loud environment?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, chances are you're a 'highly sensitive person', along with one fifth of the population. Highly sensitive people exemplify our most humane traits. They embody not just emotional sensitivity - qualities like empathy, kindness, and concern for strangers - but physical sensitivity too, processing all information very deeply.

Our modern loud and harsh world wasn't built for highly sensitive people, but their unique strengths make them inspiring leaders, heartfelt caretakers, careful decision-makers and natural-born artists.

Sensitive will shatter the myth that being sensitive is a weakness and celebrate the power of a deeper, more tuned-in mind. Offering a new way of unlocking potential, it will give sensitives - and those who care about them - the tools to be successful in school, work, life and love. Based on more than twenty years of research in neuroscience, psychology, and human genetics, it will be the first book to explore the science of sensitivity.

Sensitivity exists on a continuum and we're all sensitive to a degree. This book will reveal the power of embracing a soft heart in a harsh world and teach every sensitive to thrive.

Very insightful

I really enjoy this book as it highlights a lot thing I could identify within myself and my childhood. It will also help people to set healthy boundaries and recognise gaslighting by others and how to manage such situations. Very empowering.

Like coming home

A book that just made sense from start to finish. It had the familiarity of truths long known but not yet articulated in one place. Helps to explain many experiences in different aspects of life and also full of practical advice to make the most of sensitivity. Brings together a vision of hope for a kinder world once we learn to value it. Loved it. Highly recommend.

I feel seen

This has been one of the rare occasions that I've felt truly seen and understood. I wish there had been more in the way of advice, but I certainly did feel validated and I'm happy with that.

Essential reading for HSPs

Sensitive is a groundbreaking analysis of individuals who identify as ‘highly sensitive people’ (HSPs).

It is packed with the latest scientific research plus interesting case studies. HSPs make up 30% of the population the trait being split 50/50 between men and women.

This book is essential reading for anyone who suspects they might be sensitive it can help reframe their trait from one of a burden to a super power or gift that can enrich their personal life and be used out in the world.

Our society unwaveringly needs more sensitive people to become empowered and this book was written for them.

Wow! This is the book of a lifetime for me.

I’d heard the concept of ‘Highly Sensitive People’ before and somehow felt it didn’t apply to me. Maybe it was because of the negative connotations of sensitivity or maybe because I thought being sensitive was a conscious behavioural choice.

This book busts the myths and redefines what sensitivity is. Understanding that my brain is wired differently in a real, tangible way; that I’m in good company with a third of the population who are also sensitive; and that the things that I’ve always been good at are real gifts that are common to many sensitive people, is huge. Years of judgement from myself and others has lifted because it has all suddenly been made so clear.

Put simply, this book resonates deeply with me and has been pivotal in explaining my experience of the world for as long as I can remember.
