"Shadow Dancers" Herb Lieberman
Lieberman writes about a time and a world that means very little to me, and about which I know almost nothing, except through sanitised, 1980s American cop shows, nonetheless, he managed to pull me in - to drag me in, actually - almost reluctantly, and certainly slowly, it took such a long time for me to start feeling anything for the story or the characters... Overall, however, I am glad I stuck with it.
I've come across Bronson Pinchot before, and as always gives great value for money in this performance - much more than a straight-up, standard audio book reading - turning it into a single-handed Netflix series or movie of the week. Kudos ...

Dated
Well narrated, strange tale of a lead detective and his wife who use similar techniques to how they pick winners at the track to find serial killers ie facts and figures, stats and data. Which is at odds to the mayor and other city officials who seem to just want the crimes solved, and any suspects will do to clear their own stats. Written in 1989, it's easy to look back at how interactions, law changes and team building was necessary to overcome hierarchical top down bias and bullying and demeaning of junior staff and woman in the workplace. You have to wonder just how many innocents got locked up or how many guilty blundered themselves into custody, as for sure there is little skill shown.
Chose this book due to narrator, intelligent premise and the quirky sounding aspects.
Managed 3 hours before the attitudes and bungling got too much.
SADLY DISAPPOINTING
