About this listen

A naked woman in red high-heeled shoes is perched on the edge of Clifton Suspension Bridge with her back pressed to the safety fence, weeping into a mobile phone. Clinical psychologist Joseph O'Loughlin is only feet away, desperately trying to talk her down. She whispers, 'you don't understand,' and jumps.

Later, Joe has a visitor - the woman's teenage daughter, a runaway from boarding school. She refuses to believe that her mother would have jumped off the bridge - not only would she not commit suicide, she is terrified of heights.

Joe wants to believe her, but what would drive a woman to such a desperate act? Whose voice? What evil?

Hooked from start to finish

My first audible title and turned out to be a great selection from the vast number of those available. It had me gripped from the first minute and kept me wanting to listen to more each time I pressed the play button.

Story was excellent as was the narration. I felt for the innocent and wanted to get my hands on the 'baddy'.

Highly recommended.

Marvellous, but extremely disturbing

Our hero Joe can be just a bit too clever sometimes, but in this book he meets his match in a superb villain. Beware though, there are some passages that are absolutely stomach turning.

A masterpiece

Superbly paced, tense, gritty and even shocking in places (not easy to shock me, an ex-soldier, actually). The narration is absolutely stand out, with immersive accents and incredible use of rhythm speed volume and pitch. Sean Barrett is a superstar. Author’s not bad either! Highly recommended.

Could it really happen?

This book is gripping, disgusting- even unpleasant to hear at times but very interesting story overall and is wonderfully read by Paul Hatch. It lives up to it's title of shatter as lives and relationships are totally shattered, you have to hear full story to find out how and why.

Absolutely Gripping

I was stunned by how brilliantly this book was executed. It is a brilliant psycological thriller, murder/mystery book which portrays the most unusual characters. Making it excellent to listen to is Sean Barrett telling the story with his deep sultary voice adding to the mystery of the story. The places are described with perfection, its an eerie, scary and compelling story of a psycopath killer, who actually makes his victims kill themselves and leaves a bemused family anguished and traumatised by the aftermath - quite a feat to accomplish!!! It certainly kept me gripped to the story and certainly one of my favourites. Very highly recommended.

Unputdownable

Loved this book. It's not the kind of thing I normally read (as an actual physical book) but having listened to a few thrillers with Audible now, I am becoming more drawn to the genre. Shatter was pacy and exciting and really brilliantly narrated. With only slight modulations of his voice, the narrator switched from character to character - and real extremes of person and personality at that - and rendered them all compelling.

Didn't want to put it down

Having found this book because it was narrated by Sean Barrett and having read favourable reviews, I decided, however, to start with the first in the series. The story and the writing were great, but the narrator was dreadful. The second in the series was great again and had a good narrator, but when I got to this one I was completely hooked.

As always, Sean Barrett reads with such a depth of understanding as to make listening a pleasure, whatever the book. When the book is well-written and has a good plot, then the experience is both gripping and profoundly moving.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Perfect harmony between writer and reader

This is perhaps the best example of top class gripping writing coming together with the perfect reading style to create an experience to remember. Michael develop his characters at a pace which draws the reader in and builds the storyline to a crescendo before exploding into the ending. And is Gideon Tyler still alive?
