About this listen

Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) is in Hollywood! It's as if all her life has been leading to this moment. She's hanging out with the stars…or at least she will be, when she finally gets to meet movie superstar Sage Seymour, whom husband Luke is now managing.

There's so much to see and do! And getting Minnie through the hurdles for her A-list Hollywood pre-school will require some…er…help.

Becky sets her heart on a new career - she's going to be a celebrity stylist. Red carpet, here she comes! But Becky soon finds it's tough in Tinseltown.

Luckily her best friend, Suze, comes over to keep her company, and together they embark on the Hollywood insider trail. But somehow...things aren't quite working out as they’d hoped.

Then Becky's big chance comes, and it's an opportunity that money can't buy. But will it cost her too much?

Good story but Miss Emily Grey

This is not quite on a par with the previous books in the series but still good. The biggest downside was that it no longer has Emily Grey narrating. I would have given the performance 2.5 stars if I could- 2 would be a bit too harsh!. I always felt Emily Grey’s style and characterisation was pretty spot on. Unfortunately Becky’s dramatic moments have a pitch that is a bit screechy! Worst of all though Jane, Janice, Suze and Danny all now sound like caricature aristocrats- all varying versions of over the top Lady Bracknell. How on earth Danny the amusing lazy American diva has suddenly become upper class English of a type that wouldn’t sound out of place in a sketch about a country estate shooting party. None of them sound like they are from the same country/region any more or sound like their haughty posh voices match their personalities. I continue to listen to the series because I do like the stories but I’m really sorry to have to say replacing Emily Grey has really spoilt them for me. So much so I really wish they would get her to re record the ones they did without her.

Brilliant narrative

Loved the book and characters came to life brilliantly. However disappointed in the end. Is there a follow on book???

Pitiful

Truly grating storyline. The most stupid abrupt ending as if the author suddenly decided she couldn't be bothered to write any more.

Disappointed

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It passed the time of day and in parts was ok

What was most disappointing about Sophie Kinsella’s story?

The ending. I listened to it twice thinking I may have fallen asleep and skipped a chapter. I hadn't ! The ending was really bad. The middle bit was ok, but the characters all seemed to have had a personality transplant. I did really like the Shopaholic series, but this was most definitely the worst one.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

1) a much better ending - there was quite a lot of build up to it, but then it was as though the book had been concluded without the last 2 chapters being completed

2) keeping the character personalities the same

Was Shopaholic to the Stars worth the listening time?

It wasn't offensive, it passed some time. I'd listen to the others in the series again, I wouldn't listen to this one again.

Any additional comments?

Overall quite disappointed. I'd bought this book as soon as it came out. I'm presuming that the author has left the ending open ended for a sequel - bearing in mind it takes a good couple of years for this, I'll have completely lost all interest - the story in this respect is weak and probably not something I'd be that interested in reading / listening to.

There's part of Becky Bloomwood in all of us

Fantastic story, easy to listen to and embed your imagination. Can't wait for the next adventure in her life story.

Why no ending?

Disappointed with this one as the ending is so abrupt!! Not keen on narrator either, wish they had kept the narrator from mini shopaholic!

Great book

Loved the book, and narration only criticism is the over use of the word incredulous.

Change of Narrotor, changed the characters.

I don't think this is the best of Sophie's books but I still enjoyed it. The thing that was most off putting was that Danny has become English and Suze has become a complete b&*#h. Suze was softly spoken and kind, not a screechy and whiney. The only voice that I thought was good was Minnie's.
