Summary
The first sexy, captivating, standalone novel in the brand-new Fight for Me series from NYT and USA Today best-selling author A.L. Jackson....
Rex Gunner. As bitter as he is beautiful.
The owner of the largest construction company in Gingham Lakes has been burned one too many times. His wife leaving him to raise their daughter was the last blow this single dad could take. The only woman he'll let into his heart is his little girl.
Rynna Dayne. As vulnerable as she is tempting.
She ran from Gingham Lakes when she was 17. She swore to herself she would never return. Then her grandmother passed away and left her the deed to the diner that she once loved.
When Rex meets his new neighbor, he knows he's in trouble.
She's gorgeous and sweet and everything he can't trust.
Until she becomes the one thing he can't resist.
One kiss sends them tumbling toward ecstasy.
But in a town this size, pasts are bound to collide. Caught in a web of lies, betrayal, and disloyalty, Rex must make a choice.
Will he hide behind his walls or will he take the chance....

Another fantastic A L Jackson book!
This was a fantastic, page-turner of a book - the narration by Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt as always just superb! What a beautiful story - with romance, intrigue and emotions that just made you want to keep listening! The characters of A L Jackson are so well written they are easy to picture and the narrators get it just right too. My favourite book for a long time and one to listen to or read again. Highly recommended.

Loved it! Really brought the book to life.
I mainly listen to audiobooks that I have already read.
I thought the narrators were brilliant and really brought the story to life. I adored the story when I read it and I loved this narration. Thoroughly recommend!
This is my original book review:
OMG! What a beautiful, heart-rending read!
"Everything about Rex Gunner was unique. Blinding in his darkness. Warm in his coldness."
Rynna Dayne is back in Gingham Lakes after running away eleven years ago. She's finally returned, stronger, more confident, and determined to carry on her Gramma's legacy, although beneath the surface, her old fears and hurts haunt her. She never expected to meet Rex Gunner and his adorable little girl, Frankie Leigh. She never expected them to steal her heart.
"Maybe I'd known it then. That this girl would wreck me. Because I could feel myself coming apart. Piece by piece."
Rex Gunner is closed off. He has a handful of good friends, his wonderful mother, and his precious little girl, who is his whole world, his reason for living. The past plagues his dreams, and his guilt is a heavy burden that he carries. He has nothing left to offer, especially to the beautiful woman who moved in across the street, who is threatening his sanity, his peace of mind, and the walls around his heart.
"Maybe what struck me most was there was something sad about him, too. Something helpless and scared beneath all the harsh, hard dominance he wore so well. Something bitter and broken."
This book gripped me straight off the bat. The author had the whole story on full throttle right from the opening lines. It was saturated in electricity, emotions and angst. The connection between the characters sizzled and burned, propelling them forward into a relationship that had Rex kicking and screaming against it, and Rynna welcoming it with open arms, willing to take a chance.
From their first meeting, Rex was grim and rude, but Rynna recognised something in him that called to her. I loved that she never gave up trying to break through to him, and the passion! OMG! Rex was a mass of seething emotions. He was a bubbling cauldron of anger, desire, guilt, and helplessness that was constantly threatening to boil over. He was such a contradiction - so hard and unpleasant toward Rynna but then so, so soft and gentle with his little girl.
"Last two times I touched you nearly ruined me. Seeing you like this? Don't think I'm ever going to be the same. Stealing my sleep. Stealing my breath. Stealing my sanity. Little thief."
This novel totally stole my sleep and stole my breath. It was a fantastic tale with plenty of twists and turns, with flashbacks to the past, weaving a story rich with love, betrayal, despair, and hope. It was a stunning read.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!
I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THIS BOOK!!
I listened to this in audio and not only was the narration brilliant but it brought the characters, emotions and feelings to life, I was completely captivated and caught up in Rynna and Rex's story.
The book begins with Rynna moving back home to her Grandmother's house with a plan to take over her legacy as the local baker. Rynna was a victim in her childhood of bullying and torment. A sick and twisted joke broke her to the point that she fled and moved away leaving her Grandmother who she loved dearly and had been her only relative.
Single dad Rex, well, all I can say about Rex is, his bark is definitely worse than his bite and I wouldn't of minded his bite. Rex comes across at first as the guy with a chip on his shoulder, the silent brooding type and rude but put him in the company of his little girl Frankie and he's as sweet as one of Rynna's apple pies and oh what a turn on that was.
“All moments matter. We just rarely know how important they are until the chance to act on them has already passed.”
From the moment neighbors, Rex and Rynna meet there is instant chemistry, Rex instantly hates her for giving him feelings he thought he had not only buried but would never feel again.
Two people with hurts in their past, Rynna is a woman wanting to move on and put her past behind her, face her fears now she is back in her childhood town and then you have Rex who can't let his past go, still living in his hurt and anger with the centre of his world Frankie his only joy. One willing to be brave and another struggling to take a chance.
A beautiful romance with a beautiful outcome and eta. Show me the way is the kind of story that has you thinking that maybe some things do happen for a reason and those reasons bring people together.
A recommended heartfelt romance, brilliantly written with a great balance of emotions and hotness. Told in first person dual pov and leads to a hea. Can be read as a stand-alone.
This is my third five star read from this author and I cannot wait to read more. A.L Jackson fulfills what I look for in a romance read.

Great Story
I st usually read romance, but this book had me from the start I didn't want to put it down, I even turned it off when the story was getting a really bad twist, cause I didn't want to hear that, the narrator's did a fantastic job the author has now become one of my favourites. There were plenty of twists to keep me listening,I really did enjoy it. Highly recommended.

Awful
I genuinely can't understand how it got so many 5 star reviews. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is the narrators, they are both so talented. But the book itself is awful. The main characters are absolutely pathetic and I couldn't find one thing to like about either of them.
Rynna is a complete doormat, and spends most of the book chasing after Rex. I'm not sure where the author got her inspiration from, but knocking on a guy's door at 1am is not "taking a chance on him", that's inviting someone to murder you. Especially as that was mere hours after their first meeting, during which he was an absolute a*****e to her.
And Rex...wow what a peach. If you look for the definition of someone afflicted with untreated BPD and a large dose of assholeness, that's him in a nutshell. And to top it all, he's a pathetic liar and a coward. And a cheater. Who wouldn't fall in love with him right?
