About this listen
Charley is a cleaner by day and a professional gambler by night. She might be haunted by her tragic past but she's never thought of herself as anything or anyone special. Until, that is, things start to go terribly wrong all across the city of Manchester. Between plagues of rats, firestorms, and the gleaming blue eyes of a sexy Scottish werewolf, she might just have landed herself in the middle of a magical apocalypse. She might also be the only person who has the ability to bring order to an utterly chaotic new world.

A good read and listen
I enjoyed the different twist on a supernatural story. Being a Lancashire lass added to the enjoyment.

Great dystopian fantasy
Was a bit unsure of the narrator, found her accent and I’m northern but didn’t put me off. The story really drew me in

If you're from Manchester it'll annoy you
It's obviously written by someone who's never even been to Manchester let alone lived there. If you're from there it'll annoy the crap out of you because it's weirdly vague about where things happen and uses subtly wrong terms to describe places.
That said, it's a pretty good story pretty well done and the narration is great.

Pretty darn good
I have listened to a number of Helen’s books over the last few weeks and I have always been impressed with the strong female lead characters and the unusual take on the urban fantasy tropes that are in each series unique but entertaining. I will continue to listen to Helen’s books as long as they keep popping up on here. A word should be said about Ruth’s narration, she has an excellent grasp of accents and dialects and makes the whole listen enjoyable.

Annoying if you're English & too morally righteous
There were a lot of moments in the first half where characters said phrases and words that we just don't say here. Also, no-one carries pepper spray, it's illegal here and not worth trying to get hold of.
The middle was good as the storyline is interesting and not too predictable.
But towards the end it lost me again when it got all morally righteous. 'Good guys don't kill people we just send the badies away'. It read too teenage idealistic.

ok
I like the concept of the story, but the amount of swearing ruined it a bit for me

good start
One of the things I like about H. Harper's story are the strong female leads that do not fawn over their love interest, but keep their will and independence while walking towards being a couple. A definite plus for me.
I think the story was good, though I did find the end of book one a little disappointing (the way the "villain" was taken care of). I'll definitely read the second installment to see how things evolve.
