About this listen
A determined survivor. A terrifying creature of shadow. A society of protectors that could bring her a found family or an early grave.
Arien Blair yearns to belong. Aged out of the foster system and living on the streets, the desperate eighteen-year-old works odd jobs just to put a roof over her head. But when she’s attacked by a hooded and faceless being, she’s stunned when a brooding warrior steps in and promptly declares he’s duty-bound to protect.
Sensing a connection she neither understands nor wants, the fiercely independent young woman tries to escape only to be captured by a trio of winged seraphs and spirited away for training. But the supposed sanctuary for humans carrying angelic blood proves to be a nest of ambitious vipers, and Arien’s beauty paired with unknown potential paints a massive target on her wingless back.
Short on trust and friends, can Arien find the home she craves before ruthless rivals clip her wings?
Sky Ice is the riveting first book in the Earthbounders dark fantasy romance series. If you like strong but wounded heroines, slow-burn relationships, and epic suspense, you’ll adore E. G. Sparks’s pulse-quickening tale.

Fantasy
Not gonna lie, the first few chapters had me a bit confused. A lot was going on and I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. Dystopian? Post-apocalyptic? Magical? Fantasy? Context clues were a bit baffling. Slowly things came together and I eventually started really enjoying the book, though at times, the FMC's immaturity made me want to smack her.
Narration was clear and easy to follow. The narrator had distinct voices for various characters and an especially young voice for the FMC. Her voice wasn't to my liking but I didn't take off a star for that as that's just personal preference.
Note: this story ends on a cliffhanger
Note: while marketed as 18+, that must be for violence and language since there is NO sex. Slow burn indeed.

Fantastic Voice Actress, Fantasy plot line
*** I was given a free copy by the Author for an honest review ***
I have honestly never listened to a fantasy read so fast, it was brilliant, and inspiring.
The plot was fast paced and intense, with clever world building and descriptive language. I could see the pictures painted into my mind in perfect clarity. Even though I often listened with my eyes closed to truly ensare my senses in the story, not once was I tempted to sleep. In fact it kept me awake!
What an ending, I'm already looking forward to diving into the sequel, and seeing where the story takes us next, as this gripping adventure unfolds.
I felt the voice actress was really engaging and easy to listen to, with different accents and innotations for all the characters creating a clear divide between dialogue.
Overall it was a gripping first entrance into a series that I can't wait to keep reading and listening too.
