Summary
There's nothing like a wedding for stirring up the past….
Mr & Mrs Max Irving request the company of: Mrs Fran Friedman, mourning her empty nest, the galloping years, and a disastrous haircut. Mr Saul Friedman, avoider of conflicts and increasingly distant husband. The two Misses Friedmans, Pip and Katy, one pining over the man she can't have, the other trying to shake off the man she no longer wants. At the marriage of their son, James Irving, object of inappropriate and troubling desire.
A dark, witty tale of a wife and her grown-up family whose secrets come shimmering to the surface at a wedding.

Praise for the author:
”Acutely observed, wickedly funny and deftly plotted, with a satisfyingly smart twist at the end” (Mail On Sunday)

Depressing!
Any additional comments?
The blurb for this book is very misleading. It is the story of a dysfunctional family, Mother (Fran) the main character, father (Saul) and grown-up daughters (Pip and Katy). and the leaking of various secrets during the course of a wedding of friends. I could not warm to Fran, who I found to be spoilt and childish, and the other characters were a bit two-dimensional as the author had concentrated on her character. I did get to the end but was glad to do so.
