About this listen
The emergence of soul, meaning, and immortality
The grand religious stories that gave meaning to life and death in the past have crumbled under sceptical scrutiny. The dominant mainstream philosophy is now scientific objectivism, which describes a universe that exists for no reason and a life that ends in oblivion.
Pioneering philosopher Tim Freke addresses the "soul crisis" in modern culture that has arisen from lack of meaning. He offers an intelligent "spiritual" perspective on life and death to help us make sense of a paradoxical world, which is sometimes bleak and banal, but also can be magical and full of significance. He presents a revolutionary paradigm shift in our understanding of reality that integrates the deepest insights of science and spirituality to create a new model of human identity, which makes the idea of the immortal soul intellectually credible.
He explores the process of evolution, not as blind chance, but as the momentous story of the self-realising universe. The development of the material world has led to the emergence of "psyche" or "soul," which you are experiencing right now as a stream of thoughts and images that don't exist in space and aren't made of matter.
We are not insignificant specks in a vast purposeless cosmos. We are significant participants in the magnificent and meaningful story of soul. The universe is coming to know itself through each one of us and this process doesn't end at death, because the evolution of soul has also been the evolution of immortality.

The perfect explanation of soul and spirit
I am stunned by the brilliance of this book. It is such a simple and elegant description of how soul and spirituality are the natural emergent results of the evolution of divine consciousness. This book shows beautifully that spirit is discovering itself through us and with that we realise we have our unique, creative and collaborative part to play. It does what all great philosophy should do. I feel both relieved and inspired. This book will be read forever.

always try your best
really enjoyed listening to this book. tims managed to simplify very complex ideas into easily digestible portions. I found the last chapter superbly poetic and the simple quote "always try your best" is something I can certainly remind myself of daily.

The whole emergent view on spirituality is simply put amazing.
I feel that everything I experience in daily life fits within this philosophy. Where as in other philosophy’s I’ve always had remaining questions or where some parts of existence wasn’t quite fitting the idea.

Such a special book
I used to think that if I read a book on being, that theory must be true or false, now I know none of us know, but some know more. I loved all of Tim’s thoughts, and they align with what I hope and believe may be the main jist of it all. I still struggle with all being as one and understanding those who do awful harm on a lower level of evolution, and what happens to them. I guess we all do, but this made more sense than many theories. One thing I think I think, is that it’s not my business to waste my precious time considering this for too long, it’s my business to live my life the best way I can. I shall listen to the last chapter whenever I need reminding of the wonderful thoughts I’ve enjoyed and taken in.
