About this listen

Southside Gangsters is the only mafia tale untold. The untold story of Chicago’s south side in the 1950s, the story of the black gangsters, the story of the black mob. The wheel games were the best kept money making secret that produced $20,000 a day. The black policy kings, the famous James brothers, controlled it. The James brothers, Frankie and Johnny, were well educated crooks who made their money and kept peace in the streets. Once Johnny was in prison for tax evasion he was persuaded by mob capo, Sam Gianelli to teach him the rackets. The Italian mob discovered there was significant money in the wheel games. The syndicate’s plan was to consolidate all of the city’s gambling under its control, but there was one problem in this crime drama, Mickey Beamon. Mickey took over most of the gambling joints inside the black belt. Mickey never liked or trusted the Italian mob and had no intention of giving up his operation to them. After he refused a partnership, Mickey is told to quit the rackets or else. He would be known as the black man that stood up to the mafia. Only, his slain father was black and his mother was Italian.
