About this listen
Commerce and heroism clash when a titan of American business orchestrates a U.S. invasion of Mexico. This long-lost 1927 Broadway melodrama combines the crackling dialogue and riveting storytelling of The Front Page with Wag the Dog cynicism.

Playwrights George S. Brooks and Walter Lister’s 1927 Broadway melodrama Spread Eagle is witty, playful, and energetic. The play was lost and rediscovered in the basement of a public library, then revived in 1999 by the company LA Theatre Works. It tells the story of an American tycoon who mounts an invasion of Mexico for his own business interests. Actors Edward Asner, Kate Asner, Raye Birk, Sharon Gless, Colette Kilroy, Rod McLachlan, and Paul Murphey give dynamic performances. This audiobook is a live recording of a theater production.
