About this listen

The city may be dangerous, but it holds his only hope....

Abandoned on a remote highway after bandits murder his parents, young Olifur finds safety with Fritjof. The gruff woodsman teaches him and other orphans to live off the land. When Fritjof falls ill, Olifur will risk everything to save his mentor—even travel to far-off Melar seeking a doctor.

However, the city of Melar is more perilous than Olifur imagined, and doctors aren't cheap. His quest leads him first to a hazardous job working on the elevated trains high above the city. But the dangers in the clouds are nothing compared to those on the ground. Olifur soon finds himself ensnared in a web of professional thieves, and he must think fast if he is to survive the day and bring the much-needed aid to Fritjof before it is too late.

Schmidt reweaves Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist into an exciting tale of integrity and perseverance in this gaslamp-fantasy adventure.

I can't recommend this enough!

Wow! Steal The Morrow was such a beautiful story! I went in a bit uncertain of how this retelling would play out since it's based on Oliver Twist (and I only read the abridged version in HS) but now I'd like to tell my past self, fear not! I did end up teary-eyed by that ending (and that's a first) but they were happy tears! Seriously, this story was just so beautiful, and my heart definitely went along to Olifur and his adventures. He's so precious, and I loved his heart for good, justice, and helping others. His story is tragic yet full of hope. It's full of ups and downs, and yet every single one of those moments is necessary for that ending to be all the more satisfying. 🤗 Jenelle doesn't disappoint and her descriptions are the best! I definitely would love to visit Fritjof's Glen, as well as get to know him, Bet, and all the kids he's helped. I loved the mention of the Builder, as well as enjoyed my first introduction to this world, and I'd definitely love to get to know more about it.

Benjamin Fife was great as usual, and I enjoyed his performance in this one just as much as with other books by this author he's done before. The voices he gives to each character are easy to distinguish, and his voice as a narrator is perfect for immersing the reader in the story. The nuances were on point, and this is the first time I've heard a narrator do the whispers so well. *All the brownie points*

Seriously, I can't recommend this audio enough! It's beautiful, it's gripping, it's got adventure, and it deals with grief and abuse while shining a ray of hope amidst all the darkness and pointing to the One who's in control. Olifur has my heart, and I could definitely follow a hundred more pages of his story and adventures. I love the duo that this author and narrator make, and now I'm off to check out more of their work ~ 5 stars!
