Summary
A realm of monsters. A world of lies. She belongs to both.
My name is Emberly, and everything I’ve ever been told is a lie.
Monsters don’t exist. Wrong.
The nightmarish spectrum world is just my imagination. Wrong.
In a few months, I’ll finally be free. Wrong.
It takes being dragged to a secret training academy in the mountains to unravel the truth. My captors - an elite race of angel-born warriors called Nephilim.
The deadliest of them all is an arrogant shape shifter, Steel. He’s gorgeous, lethal, hot-headed...and convinced I’ll be the death of them all.
Maybe he’s right. As soon as I show up, the monsters that have haunted me my entire life breach the academy walls. My only hope of saving my new friends is learning how to control my powers, but when a stunning betrayal hurts someone I care about, I have an impossible choice.
Stay and fight for a place to belong...or decide once and for all that I’m better off alone.
Enter the spectrum world, a realm in-between worlds where shadow beasts draw blood, reality is a maze of twisted lights and sounds, and life goals are whittled down to just one: survive.
Fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and Cassandra Clare will love this Crescent City meets Crave mash up!

Brilliant and can’t wait for more
Absolutely brilliant!! I listened to the audio version and it was narrated beautifully really bringing this great story to life.
This is book 1 in the Fallen Legacies series by Julie Hall. I can’t wait to get to book 2.
Emberly is a great leading lady. She has lived a horrible life after being abandoned as a baby and she has bounced from foster home to foster home then eventually having to live on the street. She can see into what she calls the spectrum world and the monsters within.
When living in the street she is kidnapped and taken to a secret training academy. Here she finds out she is Angel born. She decides to stay and learn more about what she can do to protect herself.
Staying means she needs to be around the gorgeous but mean boy Steel who hates her believing she will bring put his family in danger. He is really horrible to her but they share a deep connection.
Great world building and honestly I can’t wait for more! Highly recommend this 5/5 read!

I cannot rave about this book enough
Honestly, I really enjoyed this book. The narrator does an excellent job. The story is captivating and funny. I loved the world building. I really have a soft spot for the Twins (Greyson and Sterling) and especially their interactions with Emberly. Not to mention Emberly is really easy to like and root for. I loved this listen- just jump in you won't be disappointed.

Fun to see the characters brought to life :)
I don't usually listen to the audiobook of a story I've already read as an ebook, but since I Loved this story so much, I couldn't pass up the chance to see it brought to life (read: I'll mainly be reviewing the narrator's performance, not so much the story).
It was really fun to see the characters brought to life and have some of my favorites scenes being (voice) acted (the gym fighting scene is one of my favs). Now, a couple of issues I had were that Emberly's voice took me a while to get used to (though I eventually did), and I wasn't completely sold on Deacon's voice. Also, I always have an issue when characters are yelling, since most of the time it seems as if they're hoarse/stage whispering (but I think that's a pet peeve of mine).
Still, these issues notwithstanding, I really loved Ash and Tinkle's voices, as well as being able to tell apart Greyson and Sterling (most of the time), though I also found it funny that, to me, Nova sounded like the female version of Sterling (at least in the beginning). Oh, and Vanessa's nuances and portrayal of emotions for the rest of the story (from sarcasm and whispers to hurt, vulnerability, and just Emberly's inner monologue) were definitely on point.
As for Adam, that epilogue is just a teaser of his abilities, but based on it, I could listen to him all day long, which makes me all the more excited to see him narrate Steel's POV chapters in Forging Darkness. ~4.5 stars

What a fantastic new world!
Emberly is going to be an interesting character and I'm excited to see how she
develops as this series moves forward.
Vanessa made the story easy to listen to and Adam was a pleasant surprise.

Enchanting
This is a brilliant and exciting start to a new series. The fantastic writing really brings the characters and their world to life and captures your attention making it difficult to stop listening from the very beginning.
The narration is a joy to listen to and easily transports you to another world.

Very enjoyable start to the series!
I really enjoyed listening to the audio version of Stealing Embers! The narration is very well done for the most part, although it was a bit fast for my taste in some places. I definitely still enjoyed the story, and the narrator does a very good job of voicing the different characters.
The story is interesting and well written. I particularly enjoyed the world building and learning about the different kinds of Nephilim and magic! I also really enjoyed Ember’s character as well as Ash. Steel is a major jerk in this book but maybe he’ll turn around yet. I found some of the dialogue annoying at times when the author used modern slang/juvenile language but sometimes it was funny so it wasn’t all bad. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the sequel!

AMAZING STORY 👏
"I'll accept a wide variety of suffering to hold on to my freedom. "
"On a bad day I'm a lot of things, but dumb isn't usually one of them."
"With a shake of my head, I shatter my unease. I don't have room for frivolous emotions right now. Fear gets you dead."
This is an INCREDIBLE story that is so hard to put down. Like I skipped my nap time to read it...and I'm a professional napper ya'll. The characters are so loveable. Beautiful, rich descriptions. Pulse, pounding action. Romantic tension. Enemies to lovers anyone?🙌🏻 Hilarious dialogue. Slap yourself in the face moments. ...ugh, so much good stuff.
Our MC Emberly is actually a homeless orphan. 🤯 Did not expect that. (It's not a spoiler bc you find this out on page 1.) It adds some fun quirks to her character.
One of the characters gives me Cate vibes from The Darkest Minds. If you've seen the movie she's played by Mandy Moore.
Steel (our enemy love interest) is one tough, sexy, brooding beast🦁
Her friend Sterling is the epitome of a hot, funny, super flirty dude. He's one of my favorite characters.
Love Emberly's gal pal, Ash. I love when authors include a really great friendship.
I love Emberly's little gang. They're all so much fun with their own personalities. They're very relatable, very real.
Definitely, definitely, definitely READ THIS BOOK!
.
