Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Dr Shahed Yousaf is a prison doctor dedicated to caring for people on the margins of society. An outsider on the inside, in Stitched Up he introduces us to a cast of unforgettable characters, including killers, con men and auto-cannibals. To Dr Yousaf, they are patients first and prisoners second—because any one of us could end up on the wrong side of the law. He tells us honestly and compassionately what it's like to be their doctor in a system that's chronically overcrowded, drastically under-resourced and all too easy to ignore.
Dr Yousaf spends his time running between emergencies—from overdoses to assaults, from cell fires to suicides—with one hand perpetually hovering over the panic button. It's not a job for the faint-hearted. But while the system is failing, he and his colleagues are doing their very best to prop it up.
In stories that are frequently harrowing, sometimes humorous and always hard-hitting, we discover how difficult life is for those behind bars—but that there is still hope for all those who dare to care.

Brilliant!
A brilliantly written book, Dr Y gives a great account of his journey as a prison GP leaving the reader/listener wanting to hear more. A compelling read to those who want to understand what goes on inside the prison walls. Congrats Dr Y you are a massive inspiration not only as an author but as a person too.

Unputdownable! Dr Y Writes candidly and with great thoughtfulness and empathy about his challenging time in offender health.
Highly recommend this. Insightful. Gripping. A shocking revelation about the lives and behaviours of the most challenged, vulnerable and challenging in our prisons today.

Interesting and insightful
What a wonderful man Dr Yousaf is, his humanity and care for his people is a lesson we can all learn from.
I like the way he joined both his personal life with his prison life and work, it made for an honest and meaningful account a prison medical care.
Along with the excellent narration, you will not be disappointed listening to this book.
Highly recommend.

Worth the read!
Dr Shahed shares a unique glimpse into prison life and health care challenges there. Other than being an interesting read full of funny anecdotes, this account is also a story about resilience and personal growth.
The book shows how every small actions can help even if the system is completely broken. It also raises awareness about mental health and how prison life deteriorates what's left of it in the detainees rather than rehabilitate them.
