Summary

Lee Mandelo's debut Summer Sons is a sweltering queer Southern Gothic that crosses Appalachian street racing with academic intrigue, all haunted by a hungry ghost.

Andrew and Eddie did everything together, best friends bonded more deeply than brothers, until Eddie left Andrew behind to start his graduate program at Vanderbilt. Six months later, only days before Andrew was to join him in Nashville, Eddie dies of an apparent suicide. He leaves Andrew a horrible inheritance: a roommate he doesn’t know, friends he never asked for, and a gruesome phantom that hungers for him.

As Andrew searches for the truth of Eddie’s death, he uncovers the lies and secrets left behind by the person he trusted most, discovering a family history soaked in blood and death. Whirling between the backstabbing academic world where Eddie spent his days and the circle of hot boys, fast cars, and hard drugs that ruled Eddie’s nights, the walls Andrew has built against the world begin to crumble, letting in the phantom that hungers to possess him.

I just couldn't get into this on!

I'm not one to give up on most things in life, but Summer Sons beat me. I got almost 8 chapters in so it wasn't for trying but I just couldn't engage in the story. I just couldn't get into it like with other books, many of which I devour in a day sometimes.

I can't explain why I had a problem with this one. The synopsis and the reviews from my favourite creators had me sold on this one.

The narrator was really good so no complaints there. Perhaps it wasn't the right time for me and maybe I'll go back and try again but for now, I had to return.

Awesome, intense and deliciously dark

Incredible book, very original plot and beautifully built characters. Lee has an incredible writing style that is dark and intense but brings the characters and story to life in the most gripping way. I love how hopeful and real the story is. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the characters. The narration and performance of Will Damron is outstanding. Highly recommended read from an author who has so much potential for future works.

A fun horror

I really loved the characters and Andrew's growth and it ended in a satisfying arc.
Some aspects I found a tad predictable but I still enjoyed it.
The Voice Actor, Lee Mandelo does a stunning job at bringing this story to life.

I took a risk in trying out this book as I haven't found much success in finding any good LGBT Horror books but I was not disappointed.

I'm not much of a writer but I feel inspired to write my own story having read this.

Highly recommend
