About this listen

Nearly a decade after his last volume of short stories was published, Archer returns with his eagerly awaited, brand-new collection, Tell Tale, giving us a fascinating, exciting and sometimes poignant insight into the people he has met, the stories he has come across and the countries he has visited during the past 10 years.

Find out what happens to the hapless young detective from Naples who travels to an Italian hillside town to find out ' Who Killed the Mayor?' and the pretentious schoolboy in 'A Road to Damascus', whose discovery of the origins of his father's wealth changes his life in the most profound way.

Revel in the stories of the 1930s woman who dares to challenge the men at her Ivy League university in 'A Gentleman and a Scholar' while another young woman who thumbs a lift gets more than she bargained for in 'A Wasted Hour'.

These wonderfully engaging and always refreshingly original tales prove not only why Archer has been compared by the critics to Dahl and Maugham but why he was described by The Times as probably the greatest storyteller of our age.

Wonderful short stories!

Jeffrey Archer has done it,again! I thought I would ‘dip in’ to each short story and ended up, reading them all, one after the other- they were all so different…amusing, thought provoking and , as expected, wonderfully written. Robert Bathurst’s wonderful narration keeps you hooked! Absolute brilliance from both artists- get reading now!

Another superbly entertaining book

Having waited patiently for this latest offering, I was not disappointed. Each one of these short stories is cleverly written with a surprise ending - all of which never fail to astound the reader. The performance of these stories is highly professional and the reader's voice accurately reflect the period and feeling of the eras in which was held story unfolds. My only criticism (though tongue in cheek) is that I wish there were twice as money stores in this book so that my enjoyment could be doubled!

Not a fan of short stories but this was brilliant.

Jeffrey Archer at his story telling best. Love the way he gets the readers to empathize with the characters, even the villains. Plenty of nice twists and I loved how he gave three alternative endings to one of the stories.

Great stories

A great way to pass a few hours. Some very short and others longer plus the Toronto Bank one is split into 3/4 parts. All up to the usual Archer standard.
