Summary

Book Four of The Sword of Truth, the series first begun in Wizard's First Rule, returns listeners to the world of Richard Cypher, a simple woods guide who never dreamed he would be named the Seeker of Truth and become caught up in magic, war, and dangers so extraordinary that the fate of his entire world would hang on his actions and decisions.

The dangerous, fanatical Imperial Order, under the leadership of the power-mad Emperor Jagang and his multitude of demonic underlings, unleashes a deadly plague. To find a cure, Richard Cypher and his beloved Kahlan Amnell must seek out the legendary Temple of the Winds, a fortress of evil sealed away for 3,000 years. But the path of the Seeker of Truth is never an easy one - even if he can reach the Temple at all, there is no guarantee he'll ever return.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Chainfire Trilogy and the Sword of Truth series.

whats with the narrator?

OK, just downloaded this title and am a bit bemused. I have been listening to The Sword of Truth series from the beginning and the overall thread of the story is great, but each book has a different narrator. Although this has been a little annoying between books, in this book the pronunciation of one of the lead characters, Kay-lan, has changed to Car-lan. While this is surely a minor point, it detracts quite a bit from the fluency of the series. Hopefully it will not take too long to get used to the new character name.
It is a shame that this narrator hasn't listened to the previous volumes as some very good character personality traits have been developed by previous narrators. Looking ahead in the series the narration team recycles through the earlier readers, who have obviously "got into" the story and enjoyed reading it.

Because I have only just begun listening to this book I am hesitant to rate it at all, hence the non-commital three stars, but I am sure that the story as written is as fantastic as the previous volumes and probably warrants five stars. I just hope I can overcome my dread at hearing character names being pronounced wrong...

Gripping but...

The book itself is just as gripping as the rest of the series. It introduces Cara and the other girls properly, characters that I simply adore. You get swept away with anguish for the main characters as they are forced to make the hardest choices yet in the series.

Despite the amazing story, the narration annoyed me to the point where it made me not enjoy the audio book as much. Is it really that hard to at least listen to how people before you pronounced names? Kahlan is not some weird version of Carla. And even if it was, after three books pronouncing the name one way you can't just change it because you feel like it. It's even more frustrating because of the name Cara. They are pronounced so similar that it is sometimes hard to distinguish who he is talking about.

I managed to ignore the problems after a while and still enjoyed the book, but I find it sad that the producers couldn't pay a little more attention to detail.

odd narration

the narrator changed the pronunciation of the heroines name completely from the previous 3 books. Quite why that was allowed is a mystery. He pronounces certain other words in a very strange way too. it was pretty distracting at times.

Didn't like the change in the Narrater

I struggled at first because of the change in Narrater and the way he firstly portrayed the characters with his voice and then how he pronounced the names of the characters all being different from the previous Narrater.

Great book

I really love these books, and the narration is good. Sadly he pronounces the name Kahlan wrong... He should have listened to the others first.

no consistency with narrators

the different narrators in each book is incredibly annoying especially in this book as the narrator decided to pronounce the name kaylen as Colin really takes you out of the story

The adventures of Richard and Collin...

It’s another sword of truth novel, pretty much the same as the last. You either love it or hate it.

It is however incredibly annoying how they switch narrator from every book to the next, this narrator is particularly untalented. I cringe every time he pronunciates Kahlan as “Collin”...

Narrator terrible

Can't even pronounce the characters name correctly, this should be rerecorded and rereleased with a decent narrator.

The best yet

I really loved this one, the best of the series so far. The different threads were balanced really well, and there was none of the drifting plot that happens in books 2 and 3. I love all the books, but this is the best so far. Downloading book 5 already.
