Summary

A gripping, full-cast science-fiction drama for fans of time travel, conspiracy theories, and unexplained phenomena.

In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes.

Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

But is Earth safe? Could the Vanishing happen again?

To get answers, two teams are launched back in time–one to New York City before the Vanishing; another to follow a bizarre trail of clues through history, from Area 51 to the lost Roanoke colony, and beyond.

There are forces, though, that don’t want the Temporal mission to succeed. And a mysterious being whose own agenda might destroy them all.

A magnificent ride

This is truly a masterpiece of storytelling. It requires some focus, but the characters and setting are amazing. The sound design is a marvel and overall this was one of the best (if not the best) audio dramas I’ve ever heard. Thank you!

Tume travel sci-fi at it's best

Phenomenal story that is immersion and keeps you on your toes. The story builds up from the start and picking up on every hint to the ending on a second listen just makes it even better. Also a brilliant commentary on our life these days when it comes to how we interact with technology, what we could do with it in the future, and what it could mean for us all. The cast is in top form and delivers stellar performances. Came for Nicola Walker and Julian Simpson, stayed for the mind blowing work that it is as a whole. The composer has done a phenomenal job, too. I've enjoyed his compositions in The Lovecraft Investigations and was delighted to recognise his style when I was listening.

Spectacular storytelling

I was extremely excited about this title just because it ties in my love of time travel stories, with my life long interest in unexplained events and conspiracy theories. But the way this story is woven together is genius storytelling. I planned on listening to just the first couple of chapters and ended up going to bed at 3am after I had listened to the whole story. I cannot recommend it enough. The sound effects and acting really bring this extraordinary story to life.

State of the art audio drama!

I’m a big fan of Julian Simpson’s audio dramas (check out The Lovecraft Chronicles, Aldrich Kemp, Mythos…) and this one is another banger!
Much of his work exists within his “Pleasant Green Universe” and I find it very satisfying when occasionally, elements of the various tales tangentially connect, suggesting further mysteries to be revealed! As always, perfect music, state of the art audio production and a superb cast (many familiar from previous productions) combine to create an ensemble feel, reminding me of Welles’ Mercury Players. I’m definitely gonna be listening to this one again!

Fantastic

I'm a big fan of everything Julian Simpson has done (indeed I signed up to Audible specifically to hear this), and this is no exception - I was gripped from the beginning, I only wish it was twice the length.

An immersive experience

Loved this so, so much. Some of my favourite performers and my favourite writer. The story is just the right balance of twisty but followable (apparently that’s a word!). The audio is phenomenal, great on a car audio system, outstanding using earphones - yes I’ve listened twice. Like other Simpson productions, it is eminently repeatable, each time of listening gives more. If you loved this (and don’t know of other Simpsons) check out Lovecraft Investigations and the Pleasant Green radio dramas. More needed!

unexpectedly excellent.

I don't normally listen to stories less than 8 hours and I don't normally go for timey wimey stories. mostly I'm listening to a single narrator. The whole soundscape created for this and the performances of the voice actors was extremely engaging. I loved it.

Julian Simpson does it again!

Another winner from the amazing man who brought us the world of 'Pleasant Green'. I enjoyed spotting the voices of the regular team performers who I've grown to love, and who made the whole production perfect. More please...
