About this listen
Brought to you by Puffin.
The Heath children have tennis running through their blood - their father and grandfather were top players - and the twins are championship material. However, to everyone's surprise, it is their lazy and rebellious younger sister, Nicky, who has the most natural ability. Nicky begins to practise in secret, but, talented at tennis as she is, she has battles to win with herself - on and off the tennis court.

Childhood favourite
Unexpectedly more dated than other favourite Streatfeild stories. Sadly not helped by strange narration. Really struggled with a most disappointing narration. Too many weird pauses, and completely the wrong voice for this. Couldn't listen again, as I do often do with my audibles.

Dreadful narration
I had to listen to this at 1.25 speed to make the narration even bearable - at normal speed the narrator is slow and sounds depressed.
This book hasn't stood the test of time: the plot (what there is of it) is slight and the characters are pale reflections of those of her other books. Even Annie, the former trapeze artiste, doesn't really stand out. It lacks the sparkle of Ballet Shoes and The Circus is Coming, while the episode of the umbrellas is, by today's standards, just cruel. As the book progresses, the purpose of the Tennis House becomes more and more redundant.

Excruciating
Narration was shocking. I actually took another reviewers suggestion and listened on 1.2 speed but the random pauses and dirge like voice spoiled this one completely. Assume by surname that he is a relative of the author but should not have taken the gig!!

Terrible narration
The story is very enjoyable but sadly the reading is terrible!!! It is good if you want to fall asleep as the narration is incredibly soporific.

A soothing bedtime story
The narrator has a lovely, calming voice. I enjoyed it very much. The story is rather different to the others in the “shoes” series.

Horrendous Narrator
The story itself likely wasn’t too bad at all but the narrator was appalling. There was no flow to the story, it was read in broken short sentences and was overall dull. I’m had to listen at 1.25 just to get through it and my kids were incredibly unhappy throughout. Don’t bother!!!
