Summary

For Terra, the human alien, fitting in was never an option.

"Terra is delightful...wise, funny, and above all, human." (Neil Gaiman)

Abducted from Earth as a baby by a well-meaning alien, Terra has grown up far across the galaxy on planet Fnrr. Terra has always known she was different. Her skin isn’t grey. Her eyes are a weird blue color. She has... ears.

And now, Terra is starting high school. A daunting prospect, even without being the only human in class.

There’s lots to like about life on Fnrr. Society is ordered and peaceful - founded on reason, logic, and the pursuit of knowledge. However, its inhabitants are blissfully unaware of the impending invasion that could destroy their way of life forever.

Before long, Terra will find herself propelled into a fierce battle to save the world she calls home.

A story for young listeners - or adults who remember being one - Mitch Benn’s Terra is a warm and witty coming-of-age sci-fi adventure for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider. Escape into a story of hope, discovery, and the unbreakable bonds we naively refer to as "humanity".

Praise for Terra:

"Terra is delightful.... I found myself thinking of Roald Dahl, Douglas Adams, and Terry Pratchett, but the voice and story are uniquely Mitch Benn’s. Wise, funny, and above all, human." (Neil Gaiman)

"Mitch Benn is a very fine writer, and Terra is a very fine book." (The Independent)

"High-end deadpan sci-fi silliness...with added warmth. For a story set light years away, it feels wonderfully human." (Matt Haig)

Terra is book one in The Terra Trilogy. Terra's World and Terra's War, the second and third books in the trilogy, will be coming soon.

Great storytelling

Life-affirming story told by a masterful story teller. Rarely do I prefer an audiobook over the written version, but Mitch Benn brings such linguistic delight to his narration that the audiobook is a complete winner.

Listen, laugh and live this sci-fi adventure

I had read the Terra Trilogy and was wondering what to do now to fill the void. I could read them again of course, but imagine my joy when I heard that the audiobooks would soon be available! An opportunity to re-live Terra's adventures was like music to my ears I waited patiently for their release. Mitch Benn's wonderfully expressive reading brought all the fascinating characters I loved back to life, each with their own unique voice and personality. Once again I was sharing Terra's exciting adventures, travelling with her and feeling every emotion. It felt very real and as before, I didn't want it to end. Thankfully I still have Books 2 and 3 to listen to! Thank you Mitch. An incredible story told by an incredibly gifted author and storyteller.

Wonderful!

I loved this book - sometimes it can be a bit of a risk buying an audiobook that's read by the author, but Mitch Benn has a great voice and is used to doing all sorts of voice work, so I had no worries on that score. The story is just perfect - deadpan humour scattered throughout, enough peril and intrigue to keep things interesting and just enough warm fuzziness to leave your heart smiling. I'm a middle-aged woman, so definitely not the target audience, but Im completely enamoured with Terra's story and can't wait to listen to the next installment. Bravo!

Brilliant Book, Beautifully Brought to Life

This is one of the best Audiobooks I've listened to, on a par with the recent Sandman production, with a cast of, Mitch Benn (Plus a few lines from his son). My audible library is now approaching 1,000 books, so I've got some experience of the good and the bad.

But the combination of a great story, (it may officially be a children book, but I'm in my forties and loved it), and a talented narrator, worked wonderfully.

My only complaint, I listened to it before volumes 2 and 3 were available for download, am impatient.

Well, what was I expecting? What I got.

Terra has had fans in this household for some time now, and the added accessibility of the audiobook has brought even more joy.

Mitch Benn's voice was already familiar (for years and years and... let's just say it's more than 20) so safe to say we like his work, but the warmth honesty and talent that the brings to this performance is a beautiful bonus.

A fine addition to the ways in which you can enjoy this tale about love, loyalty, family - about humanity.

"Read by the author" is the icing on the cake

In the hands of a lesser writer, this would be a confusing and disjointed story. As it is, Terra's life goes from almost mundane, first-day-of-school concerns to interstellar concerns in an amazingly natural and believable way. This is a tale about family, identity, and forgiveness, and having the author himself as the narrator is an extra treat!

Excellent. Even better than when I read it in 2013

I read this book when it was first published and loved it so much it became a bookcase keeper. Not a usual occurance my other keepers are Pratchett and Tolkien. I received this audio for free from the author and I'm so glad I decided to apply. The performance brought all the feelings back of my first read, the storytelling is beautiful and you get so drawn into Terra's new world. If you love story led writing with heart then get this book and be ready to get the following two in the trilogy as well as you won't be able to help yourself.
