About this listen

This radio dramatization of the classic Hitchcock movie originally aired on December 13, 1937.

The Lux Radio Theatre was one of radio's most popular series, attracting Hollywood's top stars and boasting a lavish budget. It began in 1934 by featuring dramas from Broadway, but there was not enough material to support the show. In an attempt to reverse the slipping ratings, the show was moved to Hollywood in 1936, where there was plenty of material and talent. In fact, filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille often served as the host.

Good Old English Drama

At its best from the old style acting that most of us were brought up on. This is a well produced drama fitting for anyone's collection. Great to listen to on cold windy nostalgic Sundays. There are more modern versions of excellent quality but this is one from the days of old that deserves a listen now and then.

A little cheesy...but a piece of history!

It is amazing to think that this is 70 years old. The recording is crystal clear. So long as you approach this with a view to the fact that you are stepping back in time and experiencing radio as it was in 1937 you will enjoy it. The dramatisation is excellent but the Lux (Soap) advertisements are laboured by todays standards. I will buy more in this series.
