Summary

A Richard & Judy Book Club Pick

Immerse yourself in The 6:20 Man, a heart-racing thriller with an incredible ending, set in the world of high finance in New York. From David Baldacci, the number one bestselling author of Memory Man.

It's time to catch a killer . . .

Having survived combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and been decorated with medals, Travis Devine leaves the army in mysterious circumstances, under a cloud of suspicion. And at thirty-two years old, he’s swapping fighting the Taliban and Al-Qaeda for a different kind of danger in the cut-throat world of high finance.

His daily commute on the 6:20 a.m. train into New York’s financial district, to his new job as an analyst at the powerhouse investment bank Cowl and Comely, takes him into a world where greed, power, jealousy and ambition result in the financial abuse of the masses and the enrichment of an elite few.

When a close friend of Devine’s is found dead, the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death at Cowl and Comely compel him to investigate further. As he digs deeper, he discovers strange coincidences and unnerving truths.

As the deaths pile up, and the major players show their hands, Travis must question who he can trust – and who he must fight . . .

The action continues in The Edge, the second Travis Devine thriller from David Baldacci.

Loved it!

I was hooked throughout and the narrator was fantastic, would highly recommend it. I would love for this to turn into a series

Baldacci on top form.

A leading candidate for the "best action thriller I have read / listened to this year. Top notch narration enhances the story.
Travis Devine is a formidable but not infallible hero. There are similarities to many other plotlines in this genre - but also plenty of original twists to the proceedings to make the story interesting throughout. In fact there are enough twists and turns for two or three novels. The average "physical attractiveness quotient" of the female characters is perhaps rather too high to be credible, which may be incentive or disincentive for the prospective reader, depending on your viewpoint. I found the audiobook hard to turn off and had finished it in a 48 hour period - which did include a long car journey - but also delayed a number of pressing tasks - I suggest you don't start listening unless you have some time in your hands - or perhaps an impending road trip across a large country!
The story reaches a satisfactory conclusion - which I did not see coming - for a standalone novel, but leaves plenty of scope for future developments if the author intends more novels featuring Travis D. For my part he will have one definite pre-order secured - for
both book and audiobook - I really hope this is the start of a series, though it may be difficult to think up another setting for the main character(s) which is as original as this one.

A decent, well paced detective novel

Apart from a couple of ‘why would they do/say that?’ moments it’s a good read and excellently narrated by the cast. I’ll read the next one.

6:20 man review

Well narrated. Good storyline with a twist at the end. I did have to stay focused as there were quite a few characters in the story.

Great story

I love baldacci’s writing. Here is a great new character so I hope more books follow.

The one thing I would warn is that the narration is poor. None of the narrators do a particularly good job and all are irritating because of that but the male narrator is particularly flat and difficult to listen to. He sucks the life out of the character and the book.

Please find a new person to read the next one. A lot of audio book companies let themselves (and the writers) down by having really poor readers. Not everyone can read in a way that enhances the book! Not everyone has a voice you can listen to easily.
