Summary

Former Prime Minister Theresa May exposes the abuse of power by public institutions and politicians in a series of riveting first-hand accounts from her time in office.

As Prime Minister for three years and Home Secretary for six years, Theresa May confronted a series of issues in which the abuse of power led to devastating results for individuals and significantly damaged the reputation of, and trust in, public institutions and politicians. From the Hillsborough and Grenfell tragedies, to the Daniel Morgan case and parliamentary scandals, the powerful repeatedly chose to use their power not in the interests of the powerless but to serve themselves or to protect the organisation to which they belonged.

The Abuse of Power is a searing exposé of injustice and an impassioned call to exercise power for the greater good. Drawing on examples from domestic and international affairs she was personally involved in at the highest level, including Stop and Search and the Salisbury Poisonings, the former prime minister argues for a radical rethink in how we approach our politics and public life.

The Abuse of Power by Theresa May

Absolutely loved this book I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in Politics and Current affairs and the fact that it was written by the former British Prime minister and also read by the author herself made it very interesting and gave you a better perspective about the author as a person and how she thought throughout her life and still does brilliant listen hope she writes more books 📚

An important book at a critical time

A very clear and well argued book for the critical importance of a public service mindset and accountability from those in authority. It's hard not to be impressed by the former prime minister's integrity and honesty regardless of one's own political views.

A strong woman of integrity and purpose as well as a thoroughly decent human being.

The details of her examples of the abuse of power are upsetting and difficult to hear. Would that the world was full of politicians such as Theresa May, then maybe, just maybe, this world, and the people in it, would stand a chance.

Good honest approach appraisal of events and policies during the authors terms of office as Home Secretary and Prime Minister.

Good insights into the operation of Government and the Public Service through the lens of Mrs May’s insights as PM and Home Secretary.
The final section gives good insights into the roles and requirements for public service in general. Hi bi

Duty to service of the Countey

Gave a good sense of government and need for ethics and integrity. I think the COVID debacle should have been mentioned more (why we locked down, why vaccine was pushed, how awful the clown Hancock was and also how the vaccine injured are being treated (I.e now, not the past). Plus, how to stop those demonstrable fools like Boris and Hancock from ever getting near power again. We were fortunate to have Teresa May as PM and in back benches.

Her commitment to service

Great listen. She was a brave inspirational politician and was dealt a tough hand on Brexit. Her perspective on the “abuse of power” is a powerful one.

A fascinating insight

This is not your typical politician justifying their decisions or claiming to have been presented unfairly by the media. This is an honest, balanced and truly insightful exploration into some of the biggest political issues in recent history. If only more of our leaders had this sense of moral duty and service. Moreover, such an openness to acknowledge their own blindspots.
