About this listen

Ex-Chicago cop and new PI Josie Harper has been hired by an outside group to clear the name of publisher Lauren Wade, recently acquitted of the murder of her lover. That means finding the real killer, a task made more difficult by Lauren's unwillingness to cooperate and a large family problem - Lauren's parents have been kidnapped for a ransom she can no longer pay. Josie has a big challenge of her own: how to redeem herself after losing her job as a detective. When Josie and Lauren join forces to rescue the parents, they discover they make a great team in more ways than one. Will Josie's troubled past come back to haunt her? And who did kill Lauren's lover?

Enjoyed it

Enjoyed this. Best thing I've read since Cari Hunter's work from the Dark Peak trilogy to A calculated risk

Okay 👌

interesting story. I definitely didn't predict the ending. I struggled to keep up with all the characters so I had to write them down (probably just a me problem though). This book will confuse you at times. to be honest I'm still a little unsure on who the killer was ha! Once you've listened to this book id highly recommended Hell's Highway by Gerri Hill 10-10 Thriller

Basic story

I don't get all the positive comments. This sorry made me cringe. Felt like it was written by a 17 year old. It wasn't terrible. But far from a great book. Very basic story. The only bonus is that it's queer.

Fine crime tale with great lead character

Well read fine tale and well developed LBGT central female PI character. Well paced and holds the tension and attention all the way.

good.

but everyone seem to be using recording devices EXCEPT for Lauren, whos supposed to be a smart person.
I just skipped Laurens chapters. Idiot Doormats just irritate me.
EDIT: aand I just finished it. Adding more stars. I am so happy I was right about not liking her. awesome.

excellent narration, interesting unique story

I use audible to relax and waste time, so often I'm not really listening and will use some books fleetingly. this one was engaging so I often had to rewind whole chapters.however there was a huge gremlin which spoiled my five star review. although it had a very interesting ending which was worth it.

main characters likeable and believable secondary character a wee bit too odd to be plausible nevertheless it was a great plot which felt like it needed to be elongated as it concluded too rapidly.

enjoyable definitely one for an aspiring writer who can learn from some of the great writing and fantastic sentence structure and plot development.

overall great but a few more chapters would enable the clunky ending to be more realistic. BTW if someone tracks your car, they probably bug your house!!! the brother was too weird to be believable and he spoilt my enjoyment. female lead very promising with a unique talent and lifestyle that does deserve five stars.

Loved the plot twist

This was an amazing listen. I didn’t want it to end. The suspense was non stop. A who done it till the end mixed with some wild romance. Most likely will listen to it again down the road.

Worth the listen!!!

Well written and full of surprises. The story evolves at a good pace with no dull bits and the end is far from predicted.

Tatiana Sokolov has a great voice or voices and performs well.

Well worth a second listen. The audio book was an "included" Audible download and unfortunately seems to be the only Anne Laughlin book available in audiobook.
