About this listen

Maurice, an amazing cat who has survived four years on the toughest streets in the whole of the Discworld, reckons that rats are dumb - clever, OK, but dumb. Maurice, however, is smart, smart enough to recognize that there's a new kind of rat around: rats who have been eating wizards' rubbish and can now talk. Smart enough to get a pretty amazing idea when he spots a stupid-looking kid playing the flute....

Now Maurice has his very own "plague of rats" and his own Pied Piper. And his money-bags are getting fuller and fuller. Until the group reaches the far-flung village of Bad Blintz.

Critic reviews

"High comedy with unforgettable animal characters; The lightness of Terry Pratchett's wit (especially his word games) makes it easy to underestimate the more serious points of this story." ( Guardian)

Brilliant story

A brilliant story that is well read by Tony Robinson.

Loved all the characters and Terry Pratchett’s humour is spot on as usual.

A great story that’s not just for the kids.

so funny!

I know it's a children's book but it is for all ages.So funny & Tony Robinson is a classic narrator. I've just listened to it while cleaning the kitchen & I've giggled & gasped all the way through.

1st audio book

This was the first audiobook I’d ever listened to and boy it’s just brilliant. Tony Robinson brings it to life and you end up falling in love with all the characters. It’s a story for any age our family love it and we often take Maurice and his amazing rodents on holiday with us

Missing third part?! Faulty upload?

I love they story and the narration is thoroughly entertaining. Tony Robinson really has brought the characters to life. Parts (or as labelled 'Chapters') 1 and 2 played fine but when part/chapter 3 played the whole story jumped back to the begining again. I think this is a fault with the upload of the book itself. And Instead of purchasing a whole story like I had expected and being able to enjoy it I merely have 2 thirds of a story and a repeat of the first third. I am sad to say I'm disappointed in Audible with this one and will be returning it as I did not get what I payed for.

Good but short.

A good listen, well read by the familiar voice of Tony Robinson; but why settle for the abridged version? Buy the unabridged copy and hear it as Terry Pratchett meant it to be heard.
